“Perfect location, great staff, small rooms”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 19, 2013

We reserved an extra large king suite for our long weekend trip to explore Charleston. The location of this hotel is perfect, right next to Market st and a couple of blocks from King. The staff were very accomodating and friendly and the room was clean. However, I was surprised how small the "large" king suite was compared to other HIlton hotels, especially the bathroom area. Since there was only 2 of us it wasn't a big deal but I wouldn't try to bring a family of four to stay in one of these rooms. Overall, a nice hotel and we would stay again.

Overall a great visit. No cookies given to us at check-in, and the noise level in the courtyard at 3 AM was loud. Had to call desk and ask them to have wedding reception guests either move inside or take it down several decibles. The matter was quickly taken care of.
Well appointed room, and very friendly staff. A great deal on the room rate meade it even better. WIll certainly return here for lodging, as I make frequent visits to this part of the state.

Room Tip: Request a room that is NOT overlooking the courtyard - especially if there is an evening wedding bei...

congenial and helpful staff , great location ,nice lobby and decent breakfast. However the sofa in the room was torn, and there was mold on the shower head and tub. The heating and cooling system was arctic or hot as hell. Better another ritzier hotel next time.

Primary interaction was with valet parking staff and housekeepers. Not only were they courteous and efficient, but went the extra mile and remembered our name from day one of our visit. Room was clean and attractive. The proximity to the City Market and great restaurants was a plus, Appreciated secure parking as we were traveling between our residences and the car was heavily loaded

The people at the hotel couldn't have been nicer or more helpful. Due to recent knee surgery we needed a "handicap" room. One thing I think businesses and people forget is that not all "handicapped" people are in a wheel chair and for that reason the rooms should not be as far down the hall as they can be. Walking is the issue and can be painful so for that reason the handicap rooms being at the end of the long hall is not a good idea. The room had a bar area with sink and fridge but no towels or soap except in the bathroom, after you've washed your hands or even a mug or glass is not the time to discover that there is no towels nearby. The HVAC unit was extremely loud in our room. Other than that we loved our stay and with the perfect location will probably stay again at the Doubletree in Charleston's historic area.

Staff were friendly and helpful, check in, valets, maids were all rather pleasant. The one time I ordered a drink at the hotel bar, the young lady said she had never made a martini before. Awkward! Charleston has so many other watering holes around there that the hotel bar is probably not much used, The city market is just outside the door. Easy walk to the Saturday Farmers Market at Marion Place, the historical churches and homes and the waterside promenades. The wi-fi worked fine in my room. It's a block or two to the nearest Starbucks, no espresso bar in the hotel. However, for a local espresso bar, City Lights on Market is much closer to the hotel, and it was just fine.

This quaint hotel is in excellent condition and the little courtyard area is perfect for gatherings. My room was very comfortable and well maintained. Bathroom a hair small but very clean. Housekeeping staff very helpful and even assisted in obtaining a charger for my phone which I forgot. The hotel was quiet and the bed was extremely comfortable.
