“Great place for wedding guests to stay!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2010

The Francis Marion served as the main hotel for out of town guests attending my daughter’s wedding. The staff did an outstanding job making sure that all details were covered. They requested information about the rehearsal, wedding, and reception venues in advance so they could help guests as needed. We were continually updated concerning the number of guests that had made reservations etc. The entire staff was both courteous and helpful in many different situations that we encountered during our stay. We had a great wedding weekend and wonderful accommodations thanks to the great folks at the Francis Marion.

The staff, from the door greeters to the front desk, are courteous and gracious. The hosts and servers in the Fox Swamp restaurant are wonderfully accomodating; the concierge the best Charleston has to offer. This was my second annual visit and I intend to remain loyal.

The location is convenient.

The hotel is beautiful - old, historic and beautifully refurbished. My trip was before Christmas and the hotel lobby was decorated beautifully for the season. The staff were friendly and helpful - from the front desk staff to the bell staff. I asked for a feather free room and my request was accommodated and ready for my arrival. There is Spa Adagio at the hotel - great spa with skilled and helpful staff. There are many cute stores, restaurants and boutiques near the hotel - it's in a great location. I would definitely recommend this hotel if you will be visiting the area - it's a nice departure from the chain hotels.

My husband and I stayed at the Francis Marion for one night, so I didn't get to try out all the services, spa, etc. However, we really liked the hotel and thought it was a great hotel for the price. I am usually very picky about the decor of the rooms, as I prefer charm and character over standard hotel rooms. Our room at the Francis Marion was lovely. The bedding fabric and the black & white prints in the room were charming. It was a small room, and the bathroom was very small, but it kind of fit the feeling of being in Charleston, and old world kind of charm. The bed was extremely comfortable!
I didn't use the spa, but looked over the services and price list. The prices seemed very reasonable for the services they offered (at least better than other spas I have been to or looked at). The spa was actually inside the hotel too, which is a big plus!
We didn't eat at the restaurant, but we did go to the bar for dessert and an after dinner drink. It was very cozy. The piano player was wonderful, the bartender was professional, and the apple tart was AMAZING!
The location is great as you can walk to almost any destination in the city. Also, there is a Starbucks below the hotel.

Pros:
comfortable bedding
elegant but subtle room decor
location is great
price

Cons:
bathrooms are a little small (but it didn't bother us at all)
extra fee for parking (but you have to pay for parking almost anywhere in Charleston)

Stayed two nights in this restored gem. Although booked in a discount room was upgraded to a corner king with great views. Room was a nice size, bathroom was small but functional and updated. Room was clean, quiet and comfortable with desk and vanity areas. It felt like a master bedroom. WiFi was a bit slow. Business center for printing. I did not use the attached Spa. Very good location at Marion Square, which was decorated for Christmas, and King Street restaurants and shopping. Self parking next to entrance $12/day (a good deal in Charleston)/ $17/day valet.

Beautiful Hotel! You can see the history and the beauty of the city as soon as you walk through the doors! A piece of history itself, well preserved and top of the line service. The morning buffet was a perk for us, with delicious, fine southern cuisine. A short walking distance to all downtown activities! My husband and I took a morning jog straight to the Battery; we were able to see the beautiful bay as well as the grand historic, homes of Charleston! Can't wait to go back!!

We stayed at The Francis Marion Hotel while celebrating our 50th wedding anniversary.
The room was great with a view of the Cooper River as well as Fort Sumter and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. The staff at the hotel went overboard to make our stay an enjoyable experience. From the time we arrived and utilized valet parking and bell hop service with our bags until we departed we could not ask for better service. The concierge service was excellent in making dining reservations and other recommended activities. We're glad we choose The Francis Marion to celebrate our 50th.
