“Perfect Weekend Getaway”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 30, 2014

My girlfriend and I recently stayed at Bloomsbury while visiting Camden for the Carolina Cup and our stay at the Inn turned out to be the highlight of our weekend. To start, the property is a stunning historic property on a quiet street surrounded by historic homes and close to both downtown Camden and the Equestrian facility. Our room was clean, spacious and well appointed.

What really made the weekend exceptional were the Innkeepers, Bruce and Katherine. They were gracious hosts, ensuring our every need was met. We had a wonderful time chatting with Bruce, Katherine and other guests while enjoying a glass of wine on the porch during the evening reception.

Thanks to the Brown's for a memorable weekend. We can't wait to visit again!

On our way home from visiting family in Columbus, GA, we were looking for something out of the ordinary. We found it. Set in an exquisite antebellum house on a quiet tree lined street, surrounded by historic homes, this is one of the best we have stayed in. Bruce and Katherine show charm and dedication to the comfort and needs of their guests. The bed was comfortable land the breakfast superb. Again this experience was enhanced by the charm of the hosts.

Room Tip: Each of the 4 rooms we saw are equal, we did not hear any noise. Each room is very good.

We had a delightful two-night stay at the Bloomsbury Inn in Camden, SC. Katherine and Bruce Brown are great hosts who take pride in allowing you to enjoy the charm and beauty of an old Southern mansion, maintained in a style fitting its heritage.
Arrive by 5:30pm so that you don't miss the hospitality hour on the front porch. Breakfast the next morning is wonderfully prepared and served.
Enjoy!

Heading for the Camden, SC area from Pinehurst, NC took slightly over two hours, passing the Rockingham NASCAR track and IHRA dragstrip on the way. The answer to our quest to find a unique place to stay was The Bloomsbury Inn. The owners, Bruce and Katherine, have lovingly brought this antebellum home back from decay to a wonderful inn that they share with bed and breakfast lovers. They really have set the bar high for other establishments, landing them on the Select Registry. Driving up to the home featured in a Charleston magazine and others, you see the camellias and future glimpses of huge numbers of azaleas. Oh, my! In a few weeks the blooms will be beautiful! The circular driveway gives the incredible home great presence in a town with 40 antebellum homes (you can and should ask to borrow the book with the self guided tour). Entering the mansion takes your breath away. Walk to the second floor to one of 4 rooms (only one of the big rooms has a king size bed and tub/bath combination). All 4 rooms are large and beautiful with all kinds of amenities, including coffee offered at all times.

Check-in is at 3:30. A gathering of guests occurs at 5:30 with snacks. Owners will give recommendations for restaurants; we tried the bakery, cafe (local place), and Sam Kendall's (American cuisine). All were good. Understand there is also a good Mexican restaurant in town. But breakfast at the inn...that is a "five star"! We had delicious fruit and granola as well as homemade fig jam (figs from the yard) on homemade biscuits. Also served were Bloomsbury eggs (poached eggs and ham) on a croissant with delicious coffee and oj.

What is there to do in town? Things to see and do are in close proximity to The Bloomsbury. We did the driving tour, saw the Revolutionary War homes and historical sites, shopped the antique stores (I'll bet there were 10 from thrift to high end), but missed the town museum and tack museum (horse racing is big here), and the flea market in a nearby town. The Bloomsbury owners will send a list of ideas on what to see over a four day span. Of course, it is interesting just to listen to Bruce talk about his interesting life and that of the Chestnut family. Be sure to allow time to sit on the huge wrap around porch and include a swing on the hammock. Enjoy! We plan to return one day!

The Bloomsbury Inn is a beautiful home with a lot of history . Every room is decorated nicely with much attention to detail. Bruce and Katherine are wonderful hosts that made our stay feel warm and welcome. Breakfast was outstanding. It not only tasted great but had a creative presentation. I would recommend this bed and breakfast to anyone looking for a quality place to stay.

This inn exceeded every expectation we had. The innkeepers are amazing and when we left-they felt like life long friends. The food was out of this world. The accomodations were absolutely beautiful. They anticipated every need. We even had a fascinating tour of the home. This is a MUST visit.

I can't say enough about the Bloomsbury Inn in Camden. What a treat. Not only is it historically stunning, but the hospitality was genuine and generous. Innkeepers Bruce and Kathryn have done an excellent job. No wonder they've been awarded Innkeepers of the Year. For us, it was a special occassion trip, spending a little more than normal but it was worth every penny. The room was well appointed and the breakfast was four star. Camden is a beautiful southern town with an equestrian tradition. The Bloomsbury Inn is a good fit for the community and a wonderful experience for visitors.

Room Tip: We stayed in the Chestnut Room with a fireplace and four poster bed. Perfect. Large with beautful ba...
