The Spanish Moss Trail is a recently opened rail trail that is tucked away from Bay Street, the Waterfront Park, and the historic district. So far, it's been of a locals-only attraction and convenience due to its location away from visitor amenities. However, visitors too will enjoy the one mile long paved trail, which will be expanding to Port Royal (to the South) and Yemassee (to the north) in coming years.
The first phase parallels Ribaut Road from a distance and runs from the end of Depot Road down to Allison Road. It features a beautiful marsh crossing and an indoor pavilion space that once was a locomotive shop that will likely be used as a market space. The trail is paved (concrete) and is great for bikes, roller skates, runners, walkers, and pets. I can't wait to see future phases open up!
