My family has been going to this drive in for over 6 years now and it's always been fun, but it just gets better every year. The staff is super friendly, and I have ALWAYS been treated well there. The new digital screen is awesome! Very clear, and with great color for an outdoor screen. The movies are surprisingly current with most of them being available on the same opening weekends as in regular theaters. There is always a kid friendly movie or two, so you can tell this is a family oriented business, but in addition to that there are also 2 playgrounds available for kids to play on before the movies start. The majority of the food is cooked on site, and though I normally limit the amount of burgers I eat, I almost always have a burger there because they are like the really good home cooked, griddle burgers which I remember my mom making with juicy meat, and soft buns. Since they let you add your own fixings from little Tupperware containers, you get fresh lettuce, tomato, onions, pickles, and etc. in just the amounts you like. My burger always ends up being so juicy that I can practically dip my french fries in the leftover juice, SO I DO! Lol! My kids love eating there too, especially since they can get fresh made funnel cakes or a snow cone as a sweet treat after supper. We barely have room for popcorn, but some how always manage to eat a bucket. Or two. With a box of Raisinettes. (Whoa! That's a lot of food. After writing all that down, I think I have figured out why I'm not that hungry the day after we splurge at the drive in. Lol! ) When my family visits from Columbia, especially my movie loving grown brothers, one of their favorite places in Beaufort is HWY 21 Drive in, so we load up all the brothers, sisters, and cousins in one or two cars , and head there. It gets pretty late at night ( I've seen people walking around in their PJ's. How cool is that !) if you stay for the second movie, but I feel pretty safe, even when going without my husband, because it's mostly families attending there and there is usually one or two male staffers standing outside close to the grill. Many people take blankets or lawn chairs, but if you'd rather sit in your car, with the a/c on in the hottest part of he year, that works out fine too. I have seen staffers spraying there at the edge of the bushes at dusk, so I do think they try to reduce the amount of mosquitoes, but like most places in SC, if you are going to be sitting still outside at night, at least one or two mosquitos will find you. Bring some bug spray just in case, but if you forget to do that, the drive in usually has a few bottles for sale.
