“A great beach to enjoy nature”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

What a great park! Your visit begins with a drive to the beaches on beautifully shaded roads. There is so much green, lush tropical foliage that I thought we had entered the gates of Jurassic Park! The paved parking areas are a short distance from the beach. They had flush toilets with changing areas. We had a great time walking along the beach, exploring among the downed trees and watching the small crabs and other animals and insects. Pelicans flew overhead, it looked like they were on an invisible roller coaster. They have loggerhead turtle nests too. People were swimming, fishing, and just enjoying the outdoors without being crowded. We visited the lighthouse as well and enjoyed seeing the beautiful cardinals and blue jays nibbling on seeds on the ground. The view from the well-maintained lighthouse was breathtaking. There were also buildings surrounding the lighthouse with interesting information in them. Although there was a $5 admission fee per adult (less rates for kids), it was well worth it. We will definitely visit again when we are in the area.

“Outstanding ...magnificant state park”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2013

I think next to the beautiful Redwoods in Northern California along the Avenue of the Giants...this state park is next on spectacular on my list. It has one cabin that can be rented out next to the light house and it would be worth it. I was just in awe of the beauty of this park

“A Hidden Gem!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2013

I've been to the beaches in Hunting Island State Park twice and each time we got a quiet spot on the beach away from others with a great view and shade! A great place to spend an afternoon! Beyond spending the day on the beach, there's plenty to do like short hikes and visiting the light house. There's also just great scenery driving through the park - there's so much tropical looking foliage a friend said it looked like we were driving through Jurassic Park! The entrance fee per person to get in is a little steep in my opinion, but it's worth at least one visit!

“Sandy beaches and shady trees”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 22, 2013

Perfect weather, nice breeze, reasonably priced gift shop. We had a very relaxing time. The drive into the park was magical with the sun shining through the trees and palm fronds onto the winding road. Parking was plentiful and the $5 per person entry fee was well worth it. The grounds around the lighthouse were well maintained and there were lots of picnic tables positioned around the beach in the shade as well as a covered area next to the lighthouse with picnic benches. The sea was warm and the wind was great. We went again the next day. Very relaxing.

“Beautiful island and beach”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

Wonderful beach for the family. It wasn't crowded at all, and everyone there behaved and dressed with respect and modesty. The lighthouse is beautiful. It made for a very relaxing and fun afternoon. The kids were so excited because driving in we saw two deer. It does cost to get in, but it was only $5 for all day. There is paved parking really close to the beach and the bathrooms/showers are right there. They are really clean and well kept, too.
