“Surprisingly cool once you get inside”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 29, 2013

Booked room as part of a soccer tournament contingent. Looked very "beachy" from the exterior (not in a good way). However, once inside, exceeded expectations, room was spacious, clean, overlooked pool area, which was fantastic. Pool big (10 feet deep), large deck area, which stepped down to an even larger area. Resteraunt, bar attached, so easy to bring food/drink in while kids in pool.

Stairwell areas could have been cleaner, but that is about it for a negative, although if you are going to stay here, insist on an interior facing room.

Room Tip: If you are going to stay here, insist on an interior facing room.

This isn't the Ritz. It's a basic, somewhat dated motel with an ideal location for Block Island Ferry-goers. We just stayed here for the second year in a row. The rooms are clean but not perfect. Yes, your car will be covered in birdsh!t when you leave. Yes, the rooms look like they're from 1960. Yes, your shower might not drain. But if you're returning from a day on BI and you shouldn't drive, this is the place to stay.

We stayed in what they called a deluxe room located in the pool area. After reading the reviews I was very nervous. We were pleasantly surprised. Room was clean, up dated with flat screen tv. No complaints, but only stayed one night. The seagulls are everywhere and made quite a mess on the cars. They offer a hose to clean your car before you leave which was a nice gesture. Purchased through Expedia and paid $140. We'd stay again if we needed a place on short notice. Friends stayed in a king room overlooking parking lot and seagulls kept them up most of the night so I would recommend requesting a room in the pool area.

having just gotten home from quick three day family mini vacation to Rhode Island - i wanted to take a minute to dispel and put to rest the crazy mistruths printed here by some of the disgruntled guests of the Lighthouse Inn

i admit - we too had our doubts - because people tend to believe everything they read on the internet as gospel - but being fairly well-educated i decided to see for myself - i began with a couple phone calls to their front desk - asking very detailed questions as to whether certain requirements we are accustom to would be met - like of course - non - smoking - which to us doesnt mean merely "non - smoking now" -- it means never have been smoking rooms because were pretty particular and not at all tolerant when people say one thing and are deceitful - were the people who have booked rooms and gotten there and walked in and demanded our money back so trust me - if its isnt nice like home we go elsewhere - without question - next -- its an older building - kind of a landmark if you will - in a very quaint seaport across from the block island ferry - and the new management has done an excellent job at restoring the rooms with great attention to cleanliness - even with all the prior reassurances over the phone - and via emails - my husband and i of course insisted on viewing the room before paying and checking in - first the beds - with all the stories you hear on the news about hotel sanitation - we are those people who throw back the sheets and take a look first - maybe extreme but - yup - they passed our very high standards - the room of course showed some wear but not as far as cleanliness was concerned - if anything charm and character but even for being a beach town - there was not a spec of sand to be found on the carpet - and certainly no God awful stains like some people have stated here - and okay so yes - there are seagulls but really people - its a fishing port go get over yourselves - if the smell of fresh lobster and clams being brought in daily doesnt negate a little poo well then i suggest you stay home!!! it is outweighed by the delicious seafood served locally - so anyway - also big props the the housekeeping staff who were impeccable with their care - they asked us if we needed anything before we could utter a word - so never a shortage of towels pillows or anything else we needed - so in our opinion great stay for the price and we certainly will be returning!!! oh ps - the indoor pool - nice!! and clean and the kids loved the 10 foot deep end! nothing but good to say!

Room Tip: if you have a question ask -- dont believe everything you read --

You better be a good sleeper. Room was clean, food was good, service was fine. Directly across the street from the block island ferry. Nice pool. $50 cheaper than the chain hotels. But hundreds of seagulls screaming all night and seagull poop everywhere. Your car will be covered in poop. I still would stay there again. The grill and bar just opened and the staff was really friendly.

I usually check out all places on trip adviser, but i went through booking.com. I really think the photo's are twenty odd years old.
I have to say one good point was the lady at front desk was pleasent, after that everything was down hill.
After passing through reception,we entered into the indoor pool area, the floor was covered in seagull feathers and the area itself was very shabby. We dreaded going to the room, second floor overlooking pool area. OH MY GOD the Smell that hit us from opening the door was very strong stale smoke and another smell which i don't want to guess!!!!! It was dark and old, i sat in one of the old arm chairs and it smelt of vomit. It was very late and we had nowhere else to book in. I spread all the bathroom towels which looked clean on the bed and had a very disturbed sleep. Next morning we went to the a joining restaurant and a very pleasent NICE boy served us,limited menu and when the coffee arrived my mug was dirty, then the breakfast,it was awful, nobody should serve up such a bad meal like that.
I think it should be reported to the health inspectors and shut down until it is completely refurbished.
I do not recommend this hotel to anyone

DO NOT EVER STAY HERE!!! I have never been more disgusted by a hotel in my life! My husband and I have been home from our vacation for 4 days now, and I still feel dirty and itchy from this absolute dump. Our room looked like a crime scene and unless we wanted to catch some flesh-eating disease, we kept our sandals on at all times. The place was covered in mold, hair, dirt, slime, seagull mess and feathers. Just a suggestion to the clearly highly intelligent maintenance team ...the mold issue may improve if the air conditioners and ice machine don't drain directly into the carpet. I really don't think it is even possible to express in words just how disturbing it is that this place is even allowed to charge people to be exposed to this hotel of horrors. The management and owners of this pigsty should be ashamed and should be arrested for highway robbery and endangering the welfare of anyone who dares to stay at the Lighthouse Inn. If I could give this place negative scores I would but I am required to select at least 1 star for each category.
