“experience of deception”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 23, 2010

The restaurant has impressive menu and described itself as exceptional one, however our experience show that this is quite deceptive. Our felling is based only on the taste of the food we have eaten there.
That night we ordered the advertised “Celebrate Summer”3 Course Dinners for $24.95.
The first course, which included our choice of soups were well prepared and we cannot complain about it. However the second course, that includes a fish dish, had no taste at all. I would say that the cooked fish perfectly kept the taste of water. In our opinion the chef probably forgot to add species to the dish.
The dessert was a caramel pudding, that you can find any simple bakery
This type of mistake is unacceptable for any kind restaurant, especially for this level.
The restaurant lost credibility to fulfill our expectation to have a good French dinner

“simply the best”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2010

Basil's has been our restaurant of choice for birthdays, anniversaries, special dinners, romantic dinners, large and small parties etc. for a good long while. We are so lucky to have this little pocket of culinary excellence in southern Rhode Island! We have by the way, come to this restaurant with and without children (our own daughter and others children). The kids were made to feel as welcome as the adults and rose to the occasion with great manners, even when they were little. Do call ahead and let the restaurant know if the kids are coming. The restaurant isi small and there are tables that definitely work better with kids.
Favorite menu choices: Scampi Provencal, Roasted Rack of Lamb, Steak Diane, Mousse au Chocolat. The wine list is just outstanding. Bon appetit!

Don't miss this place if you are visiting!

“great expectations fulfilled everytime”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 10, 2009

We are regulars at Basil's. The menu stays the same, French cuisine. Right out of Julia's cookbook. This is not trendy, hip. But good French fare. Lovely wine list. Very good cocktails and the service couldn't be better. No it is not the place to bring small children or children period. This is a fine restaurant and it is a great place for a quiet or a romantic meal. Restaurants like this are far and few between. Worth it, bon apetite!

“Expect wonderfully prepared food and sublime service every time and I have never been disappointed.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2009

We live too far away to make Basil's a frequent dining destination for dinner but wish we could. This restaurant has been a favorite for the past 20 years and has never disappointed us in all the times we have been there. The menu offers one great suggestion after another and I would agree that the duck l'orange is the best. The couple who own this establishment are committed to providing their guests with an exceptional dining experience. They developed their standards working in very exclusive fine dining establishments and combine that with welcoming hospitality you would expect from a South County Rhode Islander. Whether you are taking out an important client, close friends and family or making a first impression; this is the perfect venue.

“Excellent Food & Service and Rehearsal Dinner Spot!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2009

Every time we travel to Rhode Island Basils is on the top of our list of places to go. The ambiance is always warm and welcoming and the food is consistently delicious! The staff is very accommodating and courteous. After we started planning our wedding, one of our first thoughts was that we had to have our rehearsal dinner at Basils!

We reserved the bottom floor of the restaurant and packed in our family and closest friends. Everyone had an amazing time! We stayed until close and I think if we didn't have a wedding the next day we would've stayed longer. I definitely recommend Basil's for a rehearsal dinner for future brides.
