I am giving this hotel only 3 stars because compared to others I have
stayed at, it is truly Very Basic. Just the bare minimum of towels and they are paper thin and rough to the touch. The rooms are small and face toward the parking lot so when cars drive in, their headlights blare into your room. However, despite these drawbacks, I found my overall stay to be quite pleasant.
It is mere steps from Scarborough Beach which is one of the best beaches I've ever been to. The motel is fairly quiet at night. The owner is quite nice and the room was clean. All of the other guests were very friendly and one night we even got serenaded by a small trio of musicians in the room next door who were playing acoustic versions of older (90's) rock hits. Very pleasant.
Also, we were surprised to find a small refrigerator in our room. We
had to plug it in (the owner obviously keeps it unplugged to save on electricity) but so what. For such a basic motel, one wouldn't expect to find a refrigerator in the room.
There is also a small continental breakfast offered in the office area which we did not take advantage of.
Overall, we (my husband, myself and small son) enjoyed our stay at the Anchor Motel. We will definitely stay again but will request Rooms 1 - 5 which face toward the ocean. We were facing both streets (the hotel is located at a crossroad) and as a result, we got more headlight traffic than Rooms 1 - 5 get.
