I"ll start with the good. The seashell location is very convenient to both Misquamicut state beach and town beach. Its also close to many restaurants and bars. Its also one of the only hotels that doesnt require a 2 night minimum. However, for the price you would hope they could make some effort in the areas of the room. We stayed in room #8. The room's are small which is okay and has a beachy feel. However, the missing tile on the wall in the bathroom, the huge hole in the bathroom ceiling, the dead remote battery's and the fact that the sheets had a few hairs on them did not contribute to the charm. We asked the front desk to change the sheets on one of the beds since there were hairs when we lifted up the pillow and also bring up an extra towel since one of them had something on it. They changed the bed with attitude not even so much as an "I'm sorry" and when we handed them the dirty towel we got the reply that "it was only a floor mat not a towel". Not friendly at all. We didnt even complain about the rest of the conditions I mentioned above. The shower was extremely clean, however, when you pulled the knob to turn the shower on the whole thing would pull out of the wall to the point where you thought you might break it turning it on. All and all we only had to stay a night so not too bad. But this little Inn could have potential if the owners cared enough to put some extra TLC into the room

I appreciate your kind words and hope that you did enjoy your stay with us and that you will stay with us again. Feedback from our guests helps us improve our offerings and meet or exceed guest expectations. I would like to address the points you brought up.

First let me apologize for the less-than-friendly conduct of our staff. With 140 beds being changed every week by the housekeeper and manager, I can not say that there will never be an occasional mistake. What I can do is influence how our staff responds to a mistake and what steps they take to avoid future mistakes. I would have handled the situation differently and, I like to think, in a more friendly manner. There is no excuse for bedding or towels that are not absolutely clean. I will discuss this with our staff and I hope the conduct of our staff will not keep you from staying with us again in the future.

As to the condition of the facilities and how much effort we put into caring for the property I respectfully disagree with your assessment. Each and every winter since my wife and I bought the Sea Shell Motel in 2006 we have invested time and money to improve the facility. If you had stayed with us prior to 2006 you would think it was a different building when you walked in this year. We replaced all the beds and every stick of furniture, replaced the wall mounted lights with overhead lights, painted every interior and exterior wall, replaced all of the old toilets, tiled most of the floors, replaced all televisions and most refrigerators, and completely remodeled many of the bathrooms. All this within less than four years! The missing tile to which refer is a trim tile on one of the bathroom walls, the huge hole in the ceiling is a small piece of the suspended ceiling tile that was cut out to fit around a post, and, finally, I have yet to find a remote control battery that will not die over time. If you come back and find that these issues have not been addressed, then you will be correct in saying that we need to pay more attention to our facility. I think we work very hard to make our facility the best it can be, and we are always planning more improvements.

The pink palace is nice little motel less than 1 block from the beach. The rates are a bit less than the beachfront motels and the room was comfortable. It won't compare to a 5 star resort in NYC or Boston, but it is pet friendly and family friendly. The TV's are flat screen. The bathrooms are really small, but we didn't go to the beach or this hotel for a huge bathroom. They have a hot tub out back, and a BBQ grill. It also has a dock with a paddle boat and 2 canoes. The canoes might have been the best part of our trip. It was too cold the week of July 4th to go to the ocean much, so we canoed the salt water lake behind the motel and had a lot of fun. The owner is really nice and the staff is very helpful with advice on things to do in the area. If you want to stay on or near the beach at Misquamicut, then I would definitely recommend this motel. There may be nicer places inland such as the B&B's, but the access to the beach is a super ++. Also, they have free wifi!

my boyfriend and i stayed there about a year ago and we had a great time. the rooms were non-smoking, which was nice. my boyfriend was a smoker but there was a chair outside for him to sit outside and smoke so he really didn't mind. the room are small, but clean and nice. there was two beds, a dresser and a TV mounted on the wall. the bathrooms were small too, but i didn't mind. we didn't spend too much time in the room, and the time we did spend in there wasn't uncomfortable or cramped. the view out the front window is the road and and streets and such but the back window view is amazing. there a lovely pond in the back. there's a rowboat and canoe that you can use. and it's a lot of fun to use them too, i highly suggest taking them out on the water if you stay there it's a lot of fun. there's also a jacuzzi which was nice also. it's super close to the beach. me and my boyfriend didn't use our car the whole time we were there. we had bikes and we were able to get everywhere on them. it's really close to everything.
the best thing i like about it was hearing the sea gulls first thing when i woke up in the morning and the sea breeze drifting in through the windows. it's really a nice place to stay. i really enjoyed my stay and if we go back to rhode island again this year we will definately think about returning!

The Sea Shell Motel is a good place to stay at Misquamicut beach with your pet.

The motel changed owners last year and the new owners have done a good job of trying to update the rooms and furnishings, but they still have a little more work left to do. The bathroom in our room (not yet renovated) suffered from odors and mold on the rotting linoleum floor..

If you decided to stay at the Sea Shell, be sure to ask for a room that has had the bathroom update completed.

Positive notes:

The new owners are nice people, very friendly and accommodating.
The room was very clean.
The location was relatively quiet during the week
The beach is 1 block away
The rates are very reasonable

i had a great time when i went to seashell motel. it is very close to the beach- alot closer than i expected. debbie, the owner was very friendly and helpful. there were times when she would leave, but she would have a sign up saying exactly what time she would be coming back. this wasnt a problem since if there was an emergency there was a payphone right outside. the room was small but comfortable. one day it rained and we spent most of the time inside and it wasnt uncomfortable at all. the floors were all tile which kinda sucked since alls u did all day was track sand inside but with rugs it would be a pain to clean also. the pond in the back was great with paddle boats and canoes. didnt go in the jacuzzi but it looked clean. i think there should be a little end table outside of the rooms in case u feel like hangin out outside. overall my stay was great and the only thing that sucked was having to leave. i would definately go there again and recommend it to anyone.

  • Liked — beach was very close, friendly owners, great sea salnt pond in back yard with paddle boats and canoe
  • Disliked — quiet time at 10 p.m. jacuzzi closes at 10 pm

The Sea Shell Motel is a perfect place to crash for the weekend at the beach. The rooms are small but very clean and give you everything you need (TV, cable, HBO, sink, shower, A/C (in season), heat). Since you are at the beach, you don't spend much time inside the room. There is an outside hot tub (inseason), and beatiful pond in the backyard. There are also picnic tables, grills, volleyball nets, small dock, and a paddle boat.

We have stayed at the Sea Shell almost all seasons from early March to late November. Temps are usually in the 50's even in March and November.

The motel is only about a block from the ocean, and located in Misquamicut, which is in between Weekapauq and Watch Hill. In March, April, early May, late October, and November most of Misquamicut is a ghost town with only a few local beach stores/restaurants still open. The new owner Conrad is very friendly and will give you great ideas where to eat in town (Westerly). He is great with treating your dog with love and respect, and is quick to grab extra towels if you need them. Conrad is as sociable as you want him to be, he will leave you be if you want privacy, or he will chat with you in the yard if you want to chat.

The only other motel in Misquamicut that allows dogs is the Tern Inn which is beautiful abd luxurious, but twice the price of the Sea Shell. The Tern Inn was $175/night with the dog in early March, but includes a hot tub inside the room and a fireplace. As I said, you are at the beach and don't spend much time inside other than to sleep and shower, which makes the Sea Shell perfect.

We stayed at the Tern Inn in early March 2006, because the bottom of the Sea Shell was being remodeled and the top was booked weekly. I can't wait to see the newly remodeled rooms.

We stayed here on two occasions and only because the beach is nice and the rooms were only $99/night before the new owner. Last year the new owners raised the rates $40+/night but made no improvements (except adding a microwave). The downfall was that you had to unplug your airconditioner each time you wanted to use the microwave.

Rooms are very, very, very small and the beds are EXTREMELY uncomfortable. Bathrooms only have a shower stall and toilet (not good for infants/small children that take baths!) and only accomodate 1 person at a time. The motel only has a few units (8 or 10 at most) and most of the clientele (when we were there) were drinkers/partiers. There was a fist fight in the parking lot and the police patrol the area all the time.

For $140/night, you would find a much better value and safer environment in Cape Cod (or if you are adamant about staying in Rhode Island, Mystic and/or Providence). Although the motel is a short walk to the beach (about 2 blocks), it is tough to find a spot unless you are there early. You may find yourself having to drive to the public beach which is about a 1/2 mile or more away. And with the traffic during the summer, it is hard to get out of the parking lot if you are trying to go toward the beach. The flood of cars starts pretty early and doesn't end until late in the evening as this is the only road into Misquamicut Beach.

If you choose to stay at this motel, be sure to get EVERYTHING in writing. We were charged $25 for losing a key, although it did not state anywhere in the motel, on our confirmation or receipt that this was their policy. Upon checkout we were NEVER notified of this charge. We found out 2-3 weeks later when there was a $25 charge posted to our checking account, although the Motel had NO authorization from us to do so. If we had known their policies, we would have paid cash for the lost key upon checkout as we only used our debit card to pay for the room.

They do have a (1) paddle boat which is fun, but no pool and the backyard gets really buggy at night so bring bug spray. It was extremely hard to get in contact with the individuals that run the Motel too. Something happened with one guest and it took over 8 hours to get a hold of the Manager/Owner. Website that is now up has an invalid email address to contact them and they are extremely hard to get by phone.

We have stayed at several hotels all over the Country, including Bahamas, Bemuda, Hawaii and several others in the Carribean. For the price, this was by far the most uncomfortable and unaccomodating hotel we have ever stayed at and will NEVER return. Much nicer value and accomodations in Massachusetts or Connecticut.

Good luck if you stay here. Don't say you weren't warned!

My wife and I purchased the Sea Shell Motel in April of 2006. We've made a lot of changes and improvements to the motel since then.

The rooms are small, that's true. There are two double beds in each room and no space to add a cot or anything. We did free up some space by removing the big old televisions and mounting new LCD sets on the wall - it made a difference. We are replacing the dressers, night stands and even the beds. The first floor rooms all have ceramic tile instead of carpet, and we are replacing the existing shower stalls with custom built tiled showers. We are painting, landscaping, modernizing and improving. We are a small beach motel - no suites, no restaurant, no room service - just a good, clean, safe room at the best price in the area.

We no longer allow smoking in any of the rooms; a policy in place at many of the other small hotels in Misquamicut. This keeps the rooms, beds and linens cleaner and fresher.

We will not tolerate drunk partiers. Since we took over the motel we have had some issues with these types of guests, but no more. Loud and drunk guests scare away the good guests that we want to keep. Henceforth disruptive guests will first be asked nicely to quiet down, then be warned that they will be ejected if they continue to be disruptive, and finally be ejected from the motel with the help of the Westerly police. This will surely anger the people but we don't want drunk partiers at our motel anyway so good riddance. Rhode Island has specific laws that provide a mechanism for removal of disruptive patrons, and the police are happy to assist us.

The beach parking lot does fill up quickly on nice days. Guests at the Sea Shell can leave cars in our parking lot even for the rest of the day on which they leave. Many guests with small children or lots of beach accessories carry people and stuff using the car, unload, then drive back to our parking lot. We really are only a few hundred yeards from the state beach.

There is always a responsible person on site whenever we have guests in house. We are well aware that guests may need something during their stay with us, so we have someone there constantly. If the staff member had to leave briefly there would be a sign on the front door indicating when he or she would return. In the off season if we do not have any guests we may not be there. We return messages left on our answering machine and our email addresses are valid on our web site.

We take great care to provide a clean, safe, friendly facility for guests. I can't speak for any past owner, but we are different. Look at our web site, compare our rates, or even stop by if you are passing through.
