“Looks like a great place for a vacation. Maybe not the best place for a business traveler.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2011

Wish I would've been here for fun. Unfortunately, it was a very quick business-trip-type visit. This hotel is great for vacationers, less great for business purposes, a factor I blame more on our corporate travel department more than the hotel. Located in a scenic area, the property is "older," to put it politely. They do have wireless internet and a computer in the lobby, but don't count on being able to print anything out. Because of corporate travel policies, transportation is always an issue for us, and cab service seems spotty and undependable, especially during off-season. We depended on the kindness of strangers to transport us to and from our job site. Kind of humiliating to have to operate that way, but thank goodness for Rhode Island friendliness. The front desk clerk loaded us up in his car and took time out of his day to take us to work. Thank you very much. By the way, they do serve a continental breakfast in the morning. There's a very nice restaurant/bar & grill right next door. My rating of this hotel is based on its suitably for a business traveler. If you're on vacation, I recommend the place highly.

Room Tip: An older place with thin walls. If you need a good night's sleep, try to get an upstairs room f...

Just returned from a one week stay at the Winnapaug Inn. We orginally booked a four day stay; but we were so pleased with the Inn that we extended three more days. The owners (Antonio and Anna), and their two grown children (Maria and Nunzio), operate the Inn and adjoining Venice restaurant. Upon entering the suite, I was surprised to see how large the living area and bedroom were. The bathroom is also good size, looks new, and has a large jacuzzi tub. During our stay, I had an opportunity to chat with the owners and their family who work throughout the day at the Inn, on the beautiful grounds, and in their restaurant. They were all very friendly and helpful. If you have any questions or concerns, see Maria at the office and she will assist you and help in any way possible. As far as dining goes, we planned on eating at the Venice restaurant once during our stay. It was so good, after our first meal that we ate their two more times, including a meal in their sky view bar situated at the top of the restaurant. The bar has a glass wall surround looking out over the large salt water pond, and ocean beyond. Kate, handles the bar and dinner table with ease. You can order from the bar menu, or get items from the full dinner or lunch menu. As for the restuarant down stairs, it has a beautiful decor with "excellent" food and service to accompany it. The waitstaff work as a team, making the service flawless. We had Ben, Ed, and Patrick. All very friendly and professional. I had the veal parma and pasta, and my wife had a pasta dish with vodka. The veal was more than ample size, very thick and I could cut it with a fork. One of the best I had in years, and I order veal very frequently. In the morning you don't want to miss the continental breakfast on the first floor of the Inn. Anna brings fresh muffins, fruits, cereals, and they serve Douwe Ekbert coffee.
It was a terrific week..............Bravo to the DiMarco family...............Job well done!!!!

Due to some reviews, I was a bit apprehensive, but boy were we surprised how wonderful it was! We loved it! The rooms were large & spacious (Deluxe Queen Room) which overlooked the little golf course. The whole place was clean as a whistle! The heated pool was so much fun at the end of the sandy day at the beach. And on the Tuesday that we checked in, they offered a FREE poolside bbq!!! It is a mile from the main beaches, clean, quiet, and very affordable ($200/night including 2 kids).
While we loved the place, and will definately be back every year, but there were some minor cons which we wish they would accomodate. 1. there is no coin operated laundry - so bring enough towels & beachware for your stay. Towels from the beach do not dry completely by hanging them out on the terrace. 2. the beds are really uncomfortable - flimsey and thin. Bring your own lines if you like fabric softener. Next year, i will be bringing less regular clothes and extra linens, towels & bathing suits.

Room Tip: we had second floor, it was great. there is an elevator.

I took my mom who is a senior citizen and my 16 year old daughter. We loved the pool and the fact that our room overlooked the gold course ( ask for a room in the back). we even saw a coyote walk on the course. The hotel has a nice simple free bar ba que on Tuesday nights and they gave us a beach pass for the beachj which is about a mile away. My daughter would have preferred eggs for the free breakfast, but the english muffins and bagels were fine for me. Overall, we also went to Newport and the Foxwoods casino, so the location was perfect.

We called last minute for a reservation on a Saturday night in July. They had an opening and it was not pricey at all for last minute. Nice heated pool. Only problem was the food at the restaurant was horrible and the bartender acted like we were bothering her during the whole meal. We ate at the bar upstairs in the restaurant. We would go back to the hotel but not the restaurant.

This was a perfect choice for my son & I! Great location, very clean, beach passes a BIG plus & beautiful flowers! The owner takes great pride in her place, treat her with respect, like your mom, and she will take good care of you! :) Went to Watch Hill and had a FABULOUS dinner at the Ocean House (my birthday), the filet mignon was amazing. Ate at the lounge, which was lovely. Skip the continental breakfast at the Winnapaug Inn.

My family stayed at the Winnapaug Inn, initially booking a three-day stay. After geting discouraged from the reviews, we shortened it to a one day stay, and I have to say I'm glad we did. The rate was almost $400 a day, booking last minute, but it was easily worth $100. We are a beach-loving family, so we checked in and immediately used the free pass to get to the beach. Bring your own towels! The hotel's pool towels cannot be taken away from the hotel. The beach was cold, but it was still enjoyable. I discovered that there were various hotels directly on the beach, and tried to make reservations there for the following days, but there were no vacancies. When we got back to the hotel, we took our showers, discovering that there were only three towels (not enough for our family) and no conditioner. Afterwards, we went to their restaurant- the Venice- which had reasonable prices for excellent food. I consider the Venice to be more classy than the actual hotel. We were attacked by mosquitoes after dinner. At night, the beds were bearable, but could've used more pillows. The following morning, the breakfast was muffins, bagels/english muffins, and cereal, as well as coffee and orange juice. Overall, the price we paid did not compare to the quality we experienced.
