“Lousy experience-don't expect to sleep!!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013

I stayed here in August with my husband and two teenage boys. We have never been to the area and wanted to check it out. It was a last minute reservation and not much was available in the area, we quickly found out why they still had an apt. available. From the moment we checked in the office staff(I found out later, one of them is the owner) wasn't very friendly or inviting. The room was very musty smelling but decent size. The floors were sandy from the start and I don't think housekeeping vacuumed the whole time(3 nights) we were there. Supposedly they just rebuilt their beach bar which was nice but very expensive and basically took up the whole beach. Quiet time was supposed to be 10:00 and most of the guests did honor that but the music at the bar was blasting until at least 1:00 am with nobody but the owner, the bartender and maybe a(1) guest out there. The bar is situated in the middle of the property so all could hear the music blasting while trying to sleep. The air conditioner didn't work great so we had to open our windows. They had community tables set up on the deck outside our bedroom windows, and we had other guests smoking and talking loudly until wee hours one night and other guests up at the crack of dawn smoking and talking loudly in the morning. Waking up to the smell of smoke at the beach wasn't pleasant. Overall, the area was beautiful but I would research and find a better place for the top dollar they charge at Sandy Shores.

Room Tip: I don't think there is a good room at Sandy Shores!

Went last year for a couple of nights being right on the beach is great. Went back this year they opened a bar on the beach. Think they are looking for a party crowd. As a family on vacation not exactly what we wanted. Woke up to people sleeping on the deck outside our room, the bar area and the beach was littered with cups and garbage. The room was not real clean everything banged up was told it was their best Apartment.

If your looking to hang out and party it's an excellent place. If your looking for a family beach get away this is not the place.

I am sorry that you do not like our new Ocean Bar. We have not tried to gear our services towards the party crowd. Unfortunately whether we have the Ocean Bar or not we have had drunk guests that come to our motel. We cannot avoid what our guests are going to do when they get here, we wish that we could. Putting the Ocean Bar up was to have an amenity for our guests, we actually were supposed to have a restaurant/bar but the town would not approve the permit for the food portion and we were only allowed to have the bar. Due to the expense, we kept it. We try every year to be family oriented, but sometimes you get guests that are disrespectful, loud, and drunk. We have security on the weekends all night to avoid this as much as we can. Hopefully you will come again and give it another chance!

My wife and I wanted a one day getaway to a motel with an ocean view from the room. We regret choosing this place and should have researched furthur for the $280 we spent. aThe room was 200 sq ft at best, had to look sideways out of the small window to see the water beyond the crowded small beach and noisy bar.(I should say I am spoiled by LI ocean beaches that are far superior). If you want a place to get drunk at, lay on a chair,or wade in the water, but not spend much time in the room, this may work for you.Or if you have a family and like this kind of place go for it,though the one down the street is better. But if you want a more classy place, for less $$, try one of the local Inns. We'll never make this mistake again. Was an old fashioned 30" Tv. The room was nicely painted and smelled good, the linens were clean. The outside was shabby. But if you're going to be drunk the whole time you won't care about that.

Room Tip: stay somewhere else

Thank you for your review. Unfortunately we were hit with a huge Storm in October of 2012 and the outside of the motel has suffered tremendous damage that was repaired prior to Memorial Day weekend 2013. We are a beachfront motel and not a hotel so the rooms are smaller, the outside isn't as high class but most of our guests come here to enjoy the beach and the outdoors. Our rooms are smaller than your average "hotel" because we are a "motel". I am sorry that you were not pleased with your stay here, not all people are accustomed to the motel atmosphere. We do also have a very small beach but again we were hit with a hurricane that took a lot of our beach away which was out of our control. We hope that you find another Misquamicut location that fits your needs.

This was our first time staying (08/09-08/11) at the Sandy Shore Motel and we had a really nice time. After reading previous reviews and seeing the pictures I already had a good idea of what to expect. I would say all the recent reviews are pretty accurate. You really cannot ask for a better location, you are literally steps from the sand which is why I was willing to pay a little more money to stay here. The motel itself is very simple and does not offer much other than the beach. The king size room we were in had just one picture on the wall, a chair with ottoman, a small desk, two desk chairs, a TV cabinet with TV and a small refrigerator. The bathroom was small, with a standup shower with a glass door and a tiny sink. We were in room 25 which was on the first floor. Overall the room was clean (felt no sand on the tile floor, sheets and towels were bleach white, etc.) but I felt the shower could have used a little extra attention. The shower actually leaked quite a bit of water from the bottom while in use which made most of the bathroom floor very wet. The bathroom had no window and even though it had an exhaust fan it seemed like it never fully aired/dried out. The walls, door and the floor of the shower were clean; however there were visible signs of mold where the shower door met the metal enclosure. It probably wouldn't bother some people; I am just extra particular on things like that. However, the water pressure was excellent and they did provide shampoo, soap and lotion. The AC unit appeared to be brand new, worked great and was very quiet. The bed was firm but comfortable however was extremely noisy just sitting down on the foot end of the mattress (like sitting on the end to watch the TV), oddly the rest of the mattress was quiet! The beach area had a bar and lots of chairs, couches and lounge chairs right in the sand. They do offer food at the bar for lunch and dinner; we just did not have a chance to try it out. The staff was very nice and friendly; the parking attendant even asked if we needed help with our bags when we arrived on Friday night. The motel definitely had a party atmosphere feeling especially at night. There was a lot of activity there and right next door at Paddy's. We stayed out and up late both nights so the noise did not bother us. However, I highly recommend requesting a room on the top floor, the room above us was very noisy. At one point in the middle of the day, it sounded like the children upstairs were going to come through the ceiling! Being so close to home for us, we were just looking to get away and relax for a few days. We definitely accomplished that, it was so nice to sleep in, roll out of bed and hit the beach!

We have been staying at the Sandy Shore for several years and it just keeps getting better. When we arrived we were thrilled to see the new beach bar and deck with very comfortable chaise lounges and wicker furniture. They have a great beer and hard liquor assortment. My wife feel in love with the frozen mudslides but we also really enjoyed the Crown Royal. The motel is very clean but we do not go to the beach for a 5 star room. Our room was freshly painted, comfortable bed, snow white linen on the bed and the AC kept the room cold. We love the fact that the beach is private and security makes sure that only hotel guests use the beach. The two barmaids made sure your drink was never empty and always had a smile on even though it was close to 100 degrees the 4 days we were there. Gene the owner is ever present and making sure you are enjoying yourself. What keeps us coming back? Private beach and parking, outstanding employees, you are only a few steps from the beach, comfortable beds and clean rooms and location, location, location ! We will be back before the end of the summer so stock up on Crown Royal. Don't let the bad reviews scare you away you are right on the beach and the rooms are clean.
