“This really is "HOTEL HELL"”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed October 31, 2012

We pre-booked this hotel for two different weekends over the 2012 season (one in June, one in July). When we arrived in June for the 1st weekend, there was construction of the "Oyster Bar" going on. NO place to park, and the wonderful sounds of backhoes from 7AM - 10PM!!!!! Water poured under our door when it rained!! We complained multiple times - as they stated "minor construction", and definitly LIED!! The owner came to our room, we told him that we wanted to cancel our July weekend, and he declined to do that for us. He found it in his heart to give us a $100 credit for our next stay - AND PROMISED that construction would be done when we returned.

GUESS What????? IT WASNT!!!! Another weekend of not having a beach to lay on because the non-existant oyster bar took up the whole thing. And to top it off - they gave us the wrong room (we reserved a 2 bedroom, and the gave us a 1 bedroom - and WOULDNT change it!!)
Dirty rooms, no beach, terrible parking, an "Owner" who doesnt care....what more do you want??
STAY FAR, FAR, AWAY!!!

This trip was an adult family vacation. We rented the 2 bedroom apartment. The dishes in the cabinet were like someone rinsed them off and put them back in. One spoon really didn't cut it. Good thing we brought disposable items. We ended up cleaning before becoming comfortable. In the magazine it was advertized as having an oyster bar, serving lobster. That consisted of unfinished steel framework along the most important part of the beach, surrounded by construction piles that blocked what was left to see. Also construction / storage all around the bottom of the first floor. Hot water? Ran for 5 minutes to make it tolerable until the last few days, when we did get some. Beds? There is so much squeeking in those mattresses you could not move without noise. Nothing but bare bones here - no iron, no blow dryer. For the most part, the rooms were vacant, making what one would think a quiet place. Thursday thru Monday, being off season, the bar across the street likes to keep the doors open with the music playing quite loud, as people take turns on the microphone. Room service consists of a liquor menu. That really sums up the type of place that it really is. My personal thoughts and observances of the guests that we did see, and if this were in season, the only thing they would need is a liquor menu. I would describe this as a party motel, and if that is what you are looking for, and if you don't care about anything else, this is for you.

we arrived for a two nite stay in august of 2012 and first of all hteir web site said construction would be done by June,2012 guess what the wholebeach area infront of the hotel was dug up and a steel foundation was built for a huge deck but construction was shut down most likely because they had no permit you just cannot build on the sand dunes any more. 3pm cam and kayla the front desk girl had told me to come back four times and the room is not ready i kept comming back and we had to fight with her to get the room b 3:45pm..went to the room and the door lock does not open, called security he used his master key and opened it and every time we tried to get back into the room we could not open the door and had to call security to open the door! we used a credit card and we could not get a refund or check out early..asked the front desk to install a new lock and clearly indicated to Kayla and Jessica that this was unacceptable and they promised that a new lock would be installed and it never happened.
the room that stayed next to us was a woman with 4 16 yr old girls they were completely drunk and they invited few guys over from the beach and were very loud and drinking, we did not complain, the security guard went to their door and told them to keep it down and that we complained about them..few minutes later at 10pm she came to our door and asked why we complained about them and that created a safety issue with my family having two kids in the room with 8 guys and 4 drunk 16 yr olds yelling outside....we are disputing the charges with the credit card company for a breach of contract and we will do whatever it takes to get the money back including going to court...you just cannot charge people over $700 for two nites for a romm that is not accessable or safe!

We were approved earlier this year to build a restaurant directly on our beach. We feel that once completed it would be a great amenity to offer our guests. Unfortunately, construction wasn’t executed as planned and we were forced to halt operations due to the approaching season and to better serve our guests. Construction of the restaurant will be completed before the 2013 summer season.

Check in at our property is guaranteed by 3:30pm and is clearly stated in each guest’s confirmation letter. This guest was reserved in a 1 Bedroom Apartment for a Sunday afternoon after a sold out Saturday night. The guest entered the office on different occasions asking to be checked into his room. Each time he came into the office he was told that the room wasn’t ready and to come back after 3pm. His final attempt to check in was at 3:17pm and was successfully checked in at this time.

If we were able to check the guest in earlier we would have done so. On a Sunday when each room needs to be turned over for the arriving guests, sometimes we aren’t able to get guests checked in as early as we’d like to. Our housekeeping staff works diligently to ensure rooms are cleaned in a timely manner and that guests receive quality service.

Due to the salt air, sand, and moisture directly on the ocean, sometimes guests will have trouble with their keys unlocking their rooms. This is caused from buildup and is easily repaired. The guest notified the front desk that he was having trouble with his key and asked if someone could spray WD-40 into the locking mechanism. Our maintenance staff made sure that this task was completed for the guest. Upon checkout, the guest notified the office that he experienced trouble with the key throughout the night and recommended someone replace the lock mechanism so future guests wouldn’t have any issues. Our maintenance staff replaced the lock the same day the guest checked out.

Our security staff is on premise around the clock to ensure the safety of our guests and employees. The staff scheduled this particular night followed policy and procedure by filing an incident report for the unruly guest mentioned above. Our security staff would never compromise the safety of another guest by revealing confidential information. We received several complaints about the unruly guests. They were given a final warning and were advised that if there were anymore disturbances, it would result in calling the local police department.

We have tried to contact this guest to issue a refund for his troubles and have yet to receive a response.

my mother,me and my 2 Nephews all stayed at your property from tuesday to today , it was a great experience the Staff members are friendly the security guard was very nice, rooms are clean and spacious, i understand the reason for having all tile floors in the rooms because it makes it easier for the cleaning ladies to clean all the sand up off the floor. Yes the beach was under construction but the beach was nice and clean, free of Seaweed and rocks.

When you do go stay for a few nights just be prepared to hear people walking upstairs and kids running along the floors and banging.

overall it is a really nice Hotel/Motel, very affordable compared to the Sand Castle or the Andrea. thanks for a great stay!

Checked in on a Friday evening, had a one bedroom apartment on the top floor. Was greeted by Mike, the security man, when we pulled in and directed to a parking spot. Andrea checked us in - smooth as silk. Room was large, comfortable and clean, especially considering the location right on the beach. We had Unit A5, which has two double beds in a separate bedroom and a queen pullout in the living room. Beautiful ocean view, if somewhat marred by the construction (halted for now) of a new beach bar on the property. Confident that when construction resumes, the sand piles will be leveled. Weekend was quiet, didn't have any evidence of this being anything other than a family-oriented motel - no loud parties or inappropriate behaviors at this location! A bit pricey, to be sure, but the season is only so long, and you can't beat the location on the ocean, in the heart of the beach strip! Housekeeping was efficient - room was cleaned and towels refreshed while we were at the beach. Have to give a big shout out to Mike, who went above and beyond his role in security. I'd say he was an ambassador for the property, and went out of his way to be friendly and accomodating. Would definitely stay again, maybe before the end of this summer!

Room Tip: Loved Apartment A5, top floor center, direct ocean view. Could accomodate a family of six, or four a...

Just speant a long weekend at Sandy Shore Motel. The excellect weather made up for the dissappointing accomadations. We had a room for 4 on the 3rd. floor, paid over $1000.00 for 3 nights that was definately not worth the money. A room for 4 with 2 stained, cigarette burned chairs that I wouldn't sit on without a towel on it, with a small table for 2. The bureau with 2 drawers had one that was stuck closed that had a small 19" TV on it. The beds were lumpy and squeaky. The bathroom was not clean and smelled of urine. The small fridge in the room froze all of the fresh fruit that we brought the first night there. When I told someone in the office they didn't even seem sempathic, just replaced the fridge, but what about my food that spoiled? They said they would leave a note as the manager was not on site. No compensation at all for my spoiled food. An new firdge didn't get me anything as I didnt' have any food left to put in it! They wasn't even an outside table for each room, it was first come, first serve and never in the same spot in the morning. you had to fitght over a table and chairs on the deck. For the price of the rooms, they could at least supply an outside table and chairs for each room. Also, the construction took away from the beach area as well as the view. Needless to say I will not be returning and will not recommend this hotel to anyone. I wish I did my homework first and read some of these reviews first, shame on me! Good thing the weather was greate or we definately would have been packing!

Room Tip: Not worth the money!

Stayed one night with my husband & 2 daughters because we were longing for the ocean, and SS was the only hotel on a beach we could find. The room had been described as having a "bay window," roomy enough for 4 by someone who answered the phone. In reality the room, tho it did have a lovely view of the ocean, was small, not so clean, no bay window--only a modest sliding window facing the water. Would have been fine if it had been reasonably-priced, but it was over $300.00 for the night. Includes one bar of soap and one small tube of shampoo. As others have mentioned half the small, blocked-off SS beach is dug up, an eyesore that reduces the beach by 50%, a fact not mentioned when we called to reserve. Only positives were the friendly people at the front desk, and the great coffee and Mr Coffee machine for the morning. Had dinner just down the street at the Pleasant View, which is where we will stay next time--clean, modern, so much more pleasant.

Room Tip: View is best on the 2nd floor
