We recently returned from a trip to Newport and stayed at the Residence Inn in Middletown. The hotel was perfect! Only a very short and convenient drive to Newport and all of the sites. Extremely clean, in fact the cleanest hotel that we have probably ever stayed in. We had a one bedroom suite and were pleased to walk in and find a sitting area as well as a fully equipped kitchen. The TV turned to either face the sleeping area or the sitting area which was also a nice touch. This hotel has done a great job of making you feel like you are in a home away from home and every staff member was extremely friendly and helpful. Usually your hotel stay is just that, but our stay at the Residence Inn made our trip all the more enjoyable!

“Great place to stay”

Residence Inn Newport/Middletown

Apr 16, 2008

I recently stayed at the Residence Inn for 5 nights while attending a conference. There were 3 of us sharing a large 2 bedroom suite. The bedrooms were small but adequate and each had its own private bathroom. The main living space was spacious and nicely furnished with a sofabed and chair. The kitchen area was extremely nice and had everything you could need for a long term stay. This hotel is fairly new and the suite was spotless.
Our party utilized the workout room, the pool and hot tub and the laundry facilities. Each were nice and clean and well maintained.
The Residence Inn offers a very nice complimentary breakfast buffet. There was eggs, sausages, potatoes, cereal, oatmeal, yogurt, fruit, bagels, pastries and more. The quality was good and the food was quickly restocked as needed,
The only problem we encountered during our stay was noise. Unfortunately, soundproofing is inadequate. I could hear doors and footsteps all night. One of our party was kept awake by the snoring of someone in the suite next door.
Overall, I would recommend this hotel as a great place to stay while visiting the Newport Area. It is convienently located about 2 miles from the Newport attractions.

“Great hotel”

Philly area

My fiance and I stayed one night at this Residence Inn while we were in town for a conference at the University of Rhode Island. This was about a 30 minute drive from the university, but it was an easy drive, and I believe there is only one other hotel that is significantly closer. The only bummer about the drive is a toll bridge that is $2 each way. However, the Newport area appears to be about the only populated area nearby the university, so we preferred to stay there. The hotel is about a 5 minute drive from downtown Newport (lots of stuff to do) and is within walking distance of an Applebees.

The hotel is very new (less than a year), so it is really in great condition. The best thing about it--it is extremely clean. This is important, because I am a clean freak / germ freak, and really nothing is as important to me when choosing a hotel as cleanliness. I love the peace of mind that comes with being in a clean place.

As I think is the case with all Residence Inns, there was a kitchen in the room with full size fridge, microwave, cooktop, sink, and cupboards stocked with dishes--again, everything was very clean. The continental breakfast was excellent (standard cereals, yogurt, muffins, etc. but also a waffle iron, multiple tasty hot food options, and a variety of fresh fruit). The indoor pool, workout room, bball court, and business center were all neat and tidy, although we weren't there long enough to use any of them.

The staff was uniformly very friendly and pleasant. We were upgraded from a studio suite to a 1 bedroom suite at no additional cost (just randomly), and when I asked whether they allowed late checkouts, the man at the desk offered to move us from 11AM to 1PM with a smile. (A lot of times I feel like I am causing a problem if I ask for a late checkout--not here, and I even thought they might have been accommodating if we needed later!)

Overall, we were kind of sad we were only staying here one night! It was also a great value for the price ($116 AAA rate), although this was off-season in a beach-ish area.

“Wonderful Stay”

My husband and I stayed at the Residence Inn for our anniversary in February. We were treated wonderfully upon check in and the room was incredible. It was as if we had our own condo for the night. The rooms were very clean and comfortable. The pool area was clean and enjoyable. Breakfast was ok-more than bagels and toast yet the eggs were not that great-but there was a lot to choose from and again it was included in the room price which was great. Everything was wonderful and the service was outstanding. Rick was great-making the check in fast and efficient and then he called a little while after check in to be sure everything was to our satisfaction. Our only disappointment-only staying one night. We will choose the Residence again!

“Great location-Close to Newport!”

Our stay was for New Year's Eve, and it was the perfect location-literally right down the road from Newport (a 4 minute drive). The staff was extremely helpful and the room was clean, well appointed and well stocked.

The room set-up was suite-style w/ no separating wall between the living area and the bedroom. The staff was very helpful and identified us by name every time we walked by. The pool was small but clean and warm and the whirlpool was excellent.

I only have 1 small complaint. Our room was right near the elevator and each time the elevator stopped on our floor, the chime could be heard inside the room, and it chimed all night. Hint: Request a room away from the elevator.

The full breakfast looked good, but since it was New Year's Day, the area was quite congested and we opted to pass on it- there were fruits, Belgium waffles, toasts, rolls, biscuits and gravy, cereals, eggs, sausage, etc.

The hotel is on a strip where there are quite a few hotels and restaurants (and very little in the way of nice scenery right outside the hotel). If you are planning to see the Newport mansions, etc, this is an ideal location for considerably less than the Newport hotels
