My wife and I stayed here recently. We had 2 free nights (part of a time share vacation package). For the price we paid (nothing) it was a pretty good place. We weren't expecting much and therefore weren't disappointed. Had we spent 100$ or more a night for this place, we may have seen it differently.
Anyhow, we had a jacuzzi room w/ king bed. The jacuzzi was pretty clean and a nice touch. The bathroom was a bit small and cramped and you could see a huge ball of dirt/dust in the air vent. The bed was clean. However, all beds at the Newport Spa are Tempur-pedic mattresses. My wife and I didn't enjoy these, as they seemed hard. We both had stiff backs in the morning. However, I know a lot of people do like these types of beds.
Also, the maitenance/cleaning staff was pretty good. Our toilet clogged (the toilet never seemed to work right) and they were good about sending someone up to fix it. The place was very well cleaned the second morning, even the jacuzzi area.
The gym was old and beat up, but still functional and seemed to be empty, which was nice. There was also a pool, which we didn't try out.
On Fri and Sat nights they have a manager's 'cocktail party' which basically means they put out a bottle of champagne. Not a bad little extra I suppose.
They also have a lot of massage chairs in the lobby and one on the second floor. These were a cool touch as well.
Overall, it was a good experience, and definitely has a more unique feel to it then your typical chain hotel.
