“Good Location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 9, 2012

Booked twin room with sea view, not ready when we checked in at 3.30pm and offered a king bed room instead. Nice room - tiny window. Room well equipped but had the noisiest fridge ever - yes, we did turn the thermostat down to a warmer setting! Certainly enough space in the bedroom but the bathroom was cosy to say the least. Pool nice but very small. Rooftop jacuzzi great. Rooms were definitely noisy and not well insulated at all.

Major downside from our view was the restaurant which offered a very reasonable set meal for $24 for 3 courses. Sadly, the dining room had 3 large TVs all on different channels all with volume up - not appropriate for a reasonable quality hotel dining room. food was good but because of the incessant noise, we didn't eat there again.

Staff helpful and attentive

I loved my stay at the Newport Beach Hotel, we were greeted with great service from Jennifer. We got in really early and was hoping a room was ready for us, she got us into a great room with a view. The room was clean and the location was great. It was walking distance to the Cliff Walks with all the mansions and if you walk a tad bit more there is the downtown with food and shopping. Newport is such a great city to visit, I enjoyed my stay. Hotel was perfect and the price was as well.

This has been the noisiest hotel I have ever stayed in. We were warned by the trip advisor to not stay in the old part of the hotel because of the noise. So, booked 4 nights in the new suites section with the plastic wood floors. Kids upstairs running back and forth till 11:30 at night, first thing in the morning, all day. Jumping off the beds, off the sofas. everything rattles, bangs and vibrates; the mirrors, windows, lamps. Talked to the front desk 4 times. No help. Sorry, our 'quiet' time is after 11 pm. They never came to the room to hear how bad it is, just shrugged their shoulders! We asked to be moved, they promised to help at first, but their was no communication by staff from one shift to the next. I would advise anyone who would like a relaxing time, and we needed one, to never, never stay here

This is a review of the new suites across from the old building.
I travel for business and pleasure, and have been in the design and construction industry for 35 years. My spouse (a top-level interior designer) and I booked this place thinking we would have a great experience, and were ready to leave after the first night. The sound from the room above was unbelievably loud, and impossible to ignore. We could hear pretty much everything that was going on above us, and the plumbing was quite loud as well. There obviously were some compromises made in the construction. Normally a hotel would have concrete to dampen sound between floors, but not in this hotel. It looks like this was built as a timeshare type property, and slapped together.
The first impression was good, large rooms, full kitchen, nice bathroom. Looking more closely, cheap furniture, no counter space, tiny table in the main room, sofa that was extremely uncomfortable, no place to actually set things down. No desk or desk chair, TV on the bureau instead of wall mount, so no counters there either. The bath had adequate counters though.
The bed was comfortable, and it was nice to have a stacking washer dryer next to the kitchenette. And it had a nice view to the pond, being a one bedroom unit. The two bed units face the ocean.
All in all, it was a nice 3 day visit Newport a few miles away, but we were always unhappy when we returned to the hotel because of the noise. I can't imagine spending money to stay there again.

I would highly recommend this hotel! Clean rooms and spacious for a non-suite! I was pleasantly surprised how comfortable the bed was and how large and modern the bathroom and furniture. The only downfall was the busy street right outside the hotel, the morning cars sure make a lot of noise but not too bad that you cannot sleep just drowns out the waves more than I would have liked. The rooftop jacuzzi was incredibly relaxing, especially at sunset. But please keep in mind that the pools and hot tub were in the suites building so if you purchase a regular king or queen room you will be in the historical building just across a very small street. It worked out fine as long as you bring your room key card with you. It was worth it. I travelled off season so im not sure how busy it would be during peak but the surrounding area was beautiful and close to the cliff walk and short drive to Bannerman's Wharf. I would go again and stay here for sure!

We stayed at the Newport Beach Hotel in September 2012 and had a two bedroom suite. This was an excellent hotel, in a great location and the staff was very accommodating. It was a comfortable place to stay. The beach was just across the street, close to restaurants and close to downtown Newport.

Room Tip: Two room suite on the third floor

We decide to celebrate our 2nd Wedding Anniversary here. The location was perfect (across the street from the beach). We stayed at the newer building and the room was beautiful. At first we felt we had the hotel to ourselves with minimal people around and an empty pool/hot tub area that we enjoyed to ourselves. I founded weird that to check-in we had to go across the street to a different building (Historic building) which smelled awful the minute you walk in. Our second night was terrible because the walls are so thin you can hear everything. We spent the middle of the night seating on the bed listening to the guests next door to us fighting with each other and slamming their doors. I had to call the front desk to complaint when the couple took their argument out into the hallway. Meanwhile the guests above from us were apparently on their honeymoon and we could hear everything! As beautiful as the hotel is, I will still think twice before I stay here again.
