Beautiful gardens, private entrance, amazing scones! Harmony Home B & B was well worth the trip.
Little Compton reminds you of that picture perfect Vermont village, only near the beach! Referred to as the "Farmcoast", this area is truly a best kept secret. The main beach is called South Shore beach, but don't spread your blanket near the parking area. Instead, walk past the parking area to the much more appealing Goosewing Beach, which is wide, sandy, gradually sloped crescent beach. We went on a Saturday, and while there were people there, the beach was gloriously uncroweded. Great surf too! Oh, and Harmony Home is a great home base for exploring the area. The owners rent one room attached to their home, plus a self catering cottage on the grounds of their small farm. We stayed in the main room, which has its own private entrance with a porch, a queen bed, a sitting area, and a private bath. You're 2 miles from the beach and about 3 from Little Compton common. The gracious hosts are a wealth of the knowledge about the area. A tasty continental breakfast is served breakfast in bed style. It's a perfect getaway, much less hastle than Block Island or Cape Cod. Newport is also an easy 20 mile drive.
My wife and I stayed at the Harmony Home B&B the first week of August, 2005. It was in Little Compton, RI, a "rural" community by the sea. We had a great time and would recommend both the Harmony Home and visiting Little Compton for those who enjoy quiet getaways.
The Harmony Home is a small B&B on Long Highway. It had four rooms and we got one with a private bath. It was a cozy quaint farm home with hardwood floors. Nicely and accurately renovated and not "over the top." The couple that hosted actually lived there too. It was truely and old farm and orchard. Beautiful trees and flowers. It reminded me of my grandmothers home on the farm.
The house is an old cape cod saltbox. Our room on the top floor had the sloped ceilings. Room was nicely appointed. The bath was newly renovated and nice. Breakfast was continental that they brought to your room at the time you selected.
We used the place as a base to tour and go to the beach. If you are self sufficient and need simple, yet nice, accomodations, you may enjoy this place too. They do not entertain you, nor provide beach chairs, etc. Just a nice comfortable room to come back too. If we were ever in that area again we would probably stay there again.
This is a couples place - not much for kids here.
