“Quiet, peaceful time away”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013 via mobile

We have stayed many times at Avonlea( yellow house) and referred both friends and family. The pictures are accurate. The staff here are great-Very personable and attentive every time. Each time we stay in a different room or suite. We prefer the rooms. The "off" season is our favorite time to come, especially when we came late fall, last year(sapphire). No crowds, 4 restaurants open and some shops. Great walks in mild weather. Now it's December. This room (emerald) is very clean, has plenty of space for two and very nice ocean views. This late in December, there are 2-3 places open to eat on the island with limited hours. Bring a cooler or shop at the grocery store. Take up Cassandra on the offer to use the kitchen here. This is a great choice for us as we like to eat healthy and get creative no matter where we travel. Today we went to the grocery store and ate at the North Lighthouse in our Jeep, on the beach. Make sure to research proper layering systems for clothing-don't miss an experience because you're too cold. We saw deer, a white owl fly from the sand and sea lions. Our favorite part is coming up...wine, appetizers and fresh barnacle cookies! Bring a great book and enjoy their fireplace-but mostly each other.

My best friend and I just spent this past weekend at Avonlea. Everything about the place is magical. Cassandra and Meg, the keepers of Avonlea, really went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed to be comfortable. The rooms are small, but so lovely, and the views out the windows can't be beat. Avonlea is right in town, a close walk to everything. We will most certainly be back!

I stayed at The Avonlea in October of 2013 and it was lovely in every way. There is an amazing view from each window looking out onto the ocean. Meg, Cassandra, and Shannon who work there take such good care of you and make you feel so at home. This was my first B & B stay ever and I must say it exceeded my expectations and I will certainly be back. The best part was waking up in my comfortable room and going into the sitting area for coffee and a fresh home cooked breakfast while chatting with the other guests. The Avonlea is also in a great location on the island.

My husband and I chose to come to Block Island for our honeymoon. Neither of us had ever visited Block Island before. I found the Avonlea by googling around. The reviews are all true! It is the most romantic and wonderful getaway. We took the traditional ferry over with our bikes. The Avonlea is just a quick 5 minute walk or a few pedal strokes away from Old Harbor.

We stayed in the Moonstone room on the third floor. The MOST amazing room I have ever stayed in. It is perfect for a couple...a king bed with big windows facing the water/beach. It is the most lovely thing fall asleep or wake up to the sound of waves on the beach. It is also a beautiful sight to watch the sunrise from the comfort of the bed! The innkeepers, Meg and Cassanadra (and Meg's new husband, Josh) were absolutely amazing. The breakfast dishes they cooked were delicious and they even surprised us with champagne in our room one night for our honeymoon! Another favorite was the afternoon hor d'ourves, cookies and wine...all while watching the sun set from the porch looking out to the water!!

We can't wait to go back!

Room Tip: all of the rooms are different, and the website has accurate descriptions of them all!

We always stay at the Blue Dory's Waverly Cottage. They are very accommodating. We started staying there because we traveled with our dogs, they are the only BI Inn that excepts dogs. The cottage is nicely situated in town close to beach you can hear the waves and sit on deck with unobstructed ocean view. Ann is lovely as is the rest of the Blue Dory staff. Go in the off season for a wonderful relaxing visit.

Stayed at the Avonlea Inn for a wedding and it could not have been more perfect. Meg, Josh and Cassandra make the Inn truly special. It is located right on the beach and you can hear the sound of the ocean from your room. Breakfast was delicious, especially the lemon poppy muffins with coconut. It is walking distance to the ferry, restaurants and shops. I highly recommend the Avonlea and I can't wait to visit again.

If you ever go to Block Island, RI, then the only place to stay in my opinion is the Avonlea. It's right on the beach, close to town, and the accomodations are just wonderful. But quite frankly it is the people who run the place that make it truly feel like a home away from home and one of the most unique experiences you can imagine! Cassandra, Meghan, and Shannon go above and beyond to make you feel so at home. They know the island; and they know how to cook a top flight breakfast to get you ready to explore the island. And the happy hour they provide lets you wind down for the day. I've never been to a B&B where I had so much fun and met so many nice people, who unlike me are regulars at the Avonlea. When I go back to the Block (as they say) I will be a regular too!! Just love the Avonlea, truly a Jewel of the Sea!
