“The perfect jewel of the island!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

My husband and I stayed at the Avonlea for our 5th wedding anniversary for the weekend. It was our first time to BI and I had no clue where to stay. Avonlea was a recommendation from a friend and I'm so happy we listened to her! Not only was the location perfect and walking distance from the ferry and main strip of shopping it also had the beach right our the back door! Meg, the hostess, was extremely welcoming. She had wine and appetizers for the house guests each night and a delicious breakfast each morning. I'm still missing her pistachio muffins! We stayed in two different rooms and both were adorable with their own charm.

We can't wait to go back!

My husband and I had stayed at the Avonlea for a weekend back in October 2010. We loved it so much we decided to have our wedding reception there on June 22, 2013. We have been to Block Island many times and we have yet to find a bed and breakfast that is as charming and breathtaking as the Avonlea! Meg and Cassandra were so helpful and made sure that everything went smoothly for the wedding! The owner, Ann, was very nice and put me at ease that our day would be perfect (and it was!) All 65 guests were so impressed with the location and the views...they are still talking about it! The guests that stayed at the Avonlea (we rented out the all the rooms) are already planning their next trip back!
I ventured in every room and their was not one that I wasn't impressed with! You cannot go wrong staying at the Avonlea, Jewell of the Sea. We will definitely be back for our one year anniversary! :D

I spent 3 nights at the Avonlea in high season (August, 2013) with 4 friends and we all
Had a great time. The location was perfect with amazing views of the water and town. Breakfasts were terrific and the happy hour with wine was also a nice and relaxing touch. Most of my stays on Block Island have involved renting a house but this group wanted the luxury of meals prepared. It was a wonderful trip. Block Island is a very amazing place and the Avonlea was terrific as our home base to see the island

The Avonlea is a breathtaking place to spend a nice long weekend. This was our first trip to Block Island, and we were so happy to have chosen this quiet, well kept, romantic Inn for our short stay.
It is located just a short walk from the ferry, but away from the bustling crowds.
We stayed in the Moonstone room (top floor). The views were spectacular! The breakfasts were quite varied, and the afternoon snacks were great.
Although the room cost more than some of the other Inns, it was well worth it.
Don't hesitate to book your stay here!

Room Tip: The Moonstone is on the top floor (3 flights up), but the views are grand!

My husband and I just returned from our 1st trip to Block Island, and what a wonderful vacation it was. Everything about Avonlea was perfect! Very clean, amazing staff, and the view was breathtaking. Enjoying a glass of wine during their wine tasting hour they offer every evening, while lounging in a chair taking in the view was really spectacular! Very convenient loacation to shopping, resturants, and of course situated right on the gorgeous Cresent Beach. We can't wait to visit Avonlea again!
Thx, Gwen

Room Tip: We stayed in the Ruby room...although it was small, waking up the ocean view from our bed was specta...

Everything about this place is amazing - location, rooms, staff!! I stayed in Moonstone and loved it. Meg and Cassandra are so friendly and helpful. They make a great place become perfect. The inn is close to all shopping and restaurants but just far enough away to be quiet and peaceful at night.

The location and service were absolutely terrific! The innkeepers are wonderful. They are attentive and truly want to make your stay the best it can be. The room (we had the Diamond Room) was lovely. Beautiful view of the ocean and a separate door out to the porch. The bed was very comfortable and we slept like logs. Our only small disappointment was that the food choices, both for breakfast and for late afternoon snack, were much better at the Blue Dory than at Avonlea.

Room Tip: Talk to the innkeeper. It depends on what is most important to you: size, view, price, etc.
