“Romantic and Fun Getaway!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 2, 2012

My husband and I just returned from our Block Island vacation at The Island Home and already want to go back! The personable innkeeper, Dave Chieffo goes out of his way to think of everything possible to make your vacation absolutely perfect; the accommodations were lovely, breakfast was wonderful and healthy and there is wine and cheese at 5:00 on the front porch - a great time for guests to share their day's experiences and restaurant reviews. The rooms are spacious, ultra-clean and comfortable and furnished with "non-stuffy" antiques...it is a casual Victorian beach house that calls to you to kick off your shoes and take a load off. It is also one of the only inns on Block Island that has air-conditioning (yeah, yeah, some say "you don't NEED it" but we are two native New Yorkers and beg to differ). There is a basket of beach towels on the front porch for the guests' use, which makes it real easy to just grab your suit, a towel and go - the beach is right down the block! We had a lovely room and woke up each morning to a beautiful and tranquil view of New Harbor. Not only is this treasure of an inn located just a block from one of the best beaches on Block Island, it is also very convenient to all other points of interest as well. This is my 13th season at The Island Home and we have never taken a car over...everything is walking distance from your door!

I would recommend a vacation getaway at this venue wholeheartedly, you will not be disappointed; in fact, I have every confidence you will become a "regular" like we have, booking the same week each year and revisiting with other repeat guests from the year before! As I said, I have been coming to this inn for 13 years and it has been the "lucky 13" - I could not imagine spending my vacation anyplace else on Block Island but The Island Home.

Room Tip: Guests have a choice of rooms in the main house with private baths, two rooms on the second floor wi...

I stayed at the Island Inn last year and totally loved it! See my review from 2011. To counter some of the negative reviews the Island Home has had recently, when I stopped in to see the owner Dave in June, he showed me the beautiful carpets and wallpaper he was using in renovations and the detailed paper and wooden molding he had already done on one of the rooms. A sprinkler system was being installed and he was expecting an occupancy permit any day. In the middle of this he said I could share that while he owned the place the operations had been by his former wife which was the reason that several earlier reservations and deposits were in question. He was trying his best to contact people and make things right. Dave struck me as a hard working, talented man, who had a passion for taking charge of the Island Home and continuing to offer the quality and grace that I experienced there in June of 2011. I have no doubt that he will be successful and look forward to my annual stay there in June 2013.

Room Tip: The rooms in the Carriage House have additional beds or couches and outdoor porches. Beautiful sunse...

By not knowing whether the Island Home will be open or closed does not help the visitors that have booked reservations and are expecting to come to the island and have a place to stay. If you have booked a reservation and are trying to get a return call to confirm your reservation you probably will not get it. This makes it difficult to know if you are still going to have a room when you arrive or not. This is no way to run a business and does not help fill rooms! Word will get out and will hurt the Island Home in the long run. You know that old saying "What goes around comes around"

Room Tip: Book someplace else

Stopped by the inn since we were not able to stay due to renovations. Things are looking great! Mainly saw the carriage house, the lower level rooms are spacious with great decks to enjoy the views! The courtyard has nice wrought iron patio tables And a grill to eat in. The location is away from town a bit. Def need some type of transportation! Walking is a bit long! But overall it's coming along nicely! Hope to stay there next summer!

The Island Home is a great place to stay when you are on Block. I have been there a lot and have yet to be disappointed. I stopped by the inn in June and the owner, Dave, was hard at work on renovations prior to the inn opening for the season. As usual, he could not have been more welcoming. I can't wait for the next time I visit The Island Home - my home away from home!

Dave, It was great to be able to stop in and say hello. Thank you taking time out of your busy day for us! The Inn is looking great and once the alarm systems are finished I know the Inn will be even better than ever. We can't wait for the grand reopening so we can resume our annual stays. The Island Home is BY FAR theb BEST place to stay on the Island! Good Luck and we will stop in and say hello again the next time we are in town! -Rick and Erika

We booked with David --. He has STOLE our $500 deposit made on PayPal. Attempts to contact endless. He called less then a week before our stay to inform us the INN IS CLOSED. We have contacted the Chamber of Commerce they have numerous open complaints. Police also have complements opened for him. More interestingly the officer investigating these issues is not in and will get back to us. As others stated there are two sites for this property both taking deposits on rooms. Clear and simple this man is running a scam off a once legit business. It is bad times for all. Some choose to steal, he has. DO NOT FALL VICTIM.
