“Wrong place, wrong time”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 20, 2012

We went to Block Island after everything had closed down and were not able to take the ferry anywhere, but Judith Point. If you want to visit other areas, go when all of the ferries are running.
We stayed at Island Manor Resort and found it not to be a resort. It was a bit spartan for our taste. There was no pool, no hot tub, no computer, no telephone, and one in the office most of the time. Our room was in need of refurbishing. The bed was a double and was under the walk way window which made it noisy. There were no bedside tables. The kitchen had been redone, but the bathroom was awful. The tile was dirty looking and the blue bathtub was small, stained, and had two skid pads on it. Either the others wore off or were tore off. Overall it gave a thoroughly uninviting look. The sink was shallow and too low to use comfortably. We are not tall. I am 5ft 3 and husband is 5ft 8. Since there was not much to do on the island and the room was comfortable, we left early. I would go back to Block Island again during high season, but would find a real resort at which to stay.

Room Tip: I am not sure there is a good room.

We stayed there the week of 4th of July. Very great, central location- didn't have any need for a car- just our bikes and bike trailer for the kids. Walk to center of town in 2 minutes! Excellent hospitality from resort staff- just really great people. The room was nice (quiet at night) and we were just fine without AC- There is a great little playscape for kids, grills, places to lock up our bikes and even chairs and beach toys, and movies to borrow daily. We can't wait to go back!

My wife and I have been coming to the Block since 97 we have stayed at the New Shoreham ,HarborSide,National,Overlook, Sea Mist but by far the ISland Manor has been the best place for us.. Yes there is no AC but beautiful summer breezes and there are fans in the rooms . On the deck it is always happy hour and if your neighbors aren't your friends by the end of the week you all will be sitting and talking and sharing cocktails about how wonderful it is here at the manor..

We took the ferry from the Narragansett area (2 people and car, about $80 each way) and got a little turned around trying to find the place. IMR seems to be a renovated motor court type hotel; there are 1 bedroom and studio options in 2 buildings. A very nice family is managing the property, and they do a wonderful job with hospitality, attention to detail, and quick response to requests.

We stayed in a studio with a Murphy Bed, a pull out sofa, decently equipped basic kitchen and immaculate bath. There was a covered front porch with chairs; a nice place to sit and read, or watch the fog roll in. Honestly, no view at the property...get in your car or your scooter or bike and go see the island! You can easily walk to Old Harbor and the shops/dining options there.

We loved the north end of the island and the beach there, and stopped at a bar-restaurant at New Harbor for drinks and sunset.

Gas grills were great; we shopped for food at the Stop and Shop in Narragansett (a few miles inland from the ferry.)Very good store (Giant Food in the MD/VA/DC) area. The appliances at IMR worked very well, and the kitchen was nicely equipped.

We really enjoyed the quiet at this property; no screaming kids, no parties, just nice folk and what appears to be a unique offering on the island. Since we only had 48 hours on Block Island, and it was very foggy for most of it, we would make the effort to go back and finish exploring.

Room Tip: First building is right on the parking lot. Second building is just across a courtyard from the park...

We stayed 4 days in Aug. We were the last ferry to make it over before the cancelled ferrys for 2 days, It was rainy and windy for most of our stay, But we had a great tiem. Island Manor was a very nice place to stay, Clean and friendly place. Close to down town so we sould walk and far enough away so it was quite.
I would recommend this hotel and would stay there again
