We enjoyed the Hygeia House and will be back! The building was intended to be an Inn and is not a converted family home, so it has private baths and small sitting rooms, in addition to the public rooms. They also had some lovely landscaping. Yes they are small rooms furnished with antiques and charming old photos. This style is what can survive in a tiny niche market like Block Island. If you want a big chain hotel with bar and gym etc., then Block Island is not for you. The rooms, sheets and bathroom were very clean. No A/C, but big fans. The staff was very friendly as were the other guests, who were there for race week. We could walk to the beach, restaurants and shops in town, but did not have to suffer the noise and traffic.

Thumbs up for The Hygeia House. Perched and perfectly located in between Old Harbor and new harbor, you can enjoy the ocean breezes and enjoy the sunsets. As I am never up for sunrise :P...I cant tell you for sure...and I think those would be perfect as well.

With comfortable rooms, private baths...plenty of beach towels, an awesome outdoor shower for 2 :) and perfectly insulated walls inside...the Hygeia is a great respite from the hustle and bustle.Porches that are adorned with rockers and a view from every room make this B & B lovable (as is the staff) :)!

I definitely recommend this home, because it felt like a place away from home, to anyone who wants to experience a sense of peace, community and love. We especially enjoyed Brother.

The Hygeia is so uniquely peaceful in such a high energy tourist location. It is simple in every way and so easy to get to the beach and town. While you are on the property you feel miles away from restaurants, nightlife etc. and yet everything is in walking distance. The owner, Lisa, is so welcoming and friendly. Another ten minute conversation with her would make you want to go back, never mind the peaceful simple accomodations with views of water in just about every direction.
