“Has the typical pros and cons of a BnB, great location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2013

Pros: Character, charm, quirkiness, homey. Also great location to walk or bike to town, and nice views. Inexpensive.

Cons: All BnBs lack privacy, you never know exactly how much until you see the place and see your exact room. In our room we could hear people congregating directly under our window, inches from our bed, as they returned bikes. In the morning, the breakfast was laid out on the wall behind our headboard. If those things might ruin your trip, do not book a trip here. But if you are a BnB regular, well, that is the way it sometimes goes and that is why BnBs are so reasonable.

I do agree with another poster that the breakfast disappointed. Often BnBs do only give "fruit and a starch" but the quality should have been better.

I also felt that the bathroom seemed dirty and decrepit. Not in a charming antique way, either. More in a poorly done 70s reno way.

Thank you for your review, and glad to hear you found our location great and our B+B charming. Our rooms with shared bath are reasonably priced, and still one of the best deals on Block Island. Since this review was written, we have made some changes. All our breakfasts are now delivered directly to the guest rooms. Also we have now completely renovated all of our bathrooms, with beautifully tiled showers.

We are so grateful to the staff of The Sea Breeze Inn for making our one night stay so special.
The location can hardly be beat, even on Block Island. Nestled behind a high privet hedge you find yourself in a private piece of the island that feels like it exists just for you. The gardens are lovely, the Inn is beautifully decorated, an ocean view found out almost every window.
At night we sat in the Adirondacks under blankets feasting on the star filled sky. Listened to the wind on the water while drifting off to sleep. Cozy breakfast in bed in the morning was as tasty as it was pretty. Warm muffins and fruit with croissants, all artfully presented. The thoughtful surprise of chilled Prosecco was very much appreciated as it was our wedding day. Would love to revisit this very special inn on this very special island. Thanks for making it such an excellent nite.

Room Tip: Just check out their great website

I have been to Block Island several times over the past few years and this place is my favorite. We had originally booked room 10 for three nights, but two weeks before our trip, my wife's job gave us a timing conflict and we had to reschedule or cancel- which is something I really didn't want to do. After speaking with Andrea from the Sea Breeze, I was reassured that something could be worked out and fortunately for us, it was. We were given room 7 but then changed to room 9 which was absolutely perfect for us. It felt very private and we loved sitting on our balcony's rocking chairs while watching the waves of the sea. Even the rain couldn't bother us as the balcony is covered. The grounds are well looked after and the location is perfect- right across the street from the Spring House, so it's just a short walk into town. I liked that it is away from the crowds of town.

The staff here was great and we felt that we definitely booked the right place as it felt like home. It was greatly appreciated how they worked with me and our unusual timing dilemma, as it required several phone calls.

My wife really loved the breakfast basket that Jennifer delivered to our room every morning. It was nice that there was different food choices each day too. I see other reviewers complained about low water pressure but I think it's more of a Block Island issue than a Sea Breeze one. This is a great place to just get away from it all as it gives you that old, rustic New England charm that seems to be quickly disappearing these days. We will be back!

My husband and I have been coming to Sea Breeze Inn every summer since we were married 11 years ago. That says it all. Of course, if you are looking for a high end, bells and whistles and business as usual connection with the outside world, Sea Breeze is not for you. But if you are looking for a completely original experience replete with drop dead views, charming historic architecture, human and artistic touches everywhere and a thoughtful and sustainable operation then come along. We are not looking for a scene; we love nature, cotton sheets, good coffee, friendliness, porches, outdoor showers, books and games we can borrow, low key atmosphere, car-free access and it gets better every year. For a couple of years I brought my sister and her family - children 5-12 and they loved it - especially the kayak and the turtles in the two freshwater ponds on the property.

Room Tip: This really depends on what you are after - we go for the middle, Room 5 upstars in the main house...

I have been staying at the Sea Breeze annually for many years. I love the view, the beautiful gardens, and the friendly but not intrusive staff. The inn does not pretend to order full breakfast, but the continental breakfast includes an array of fresh fruit and a changing menu of pastry. The coffee is excellent. The shared baths in the main building are never a problem, but there is more privacy on the second floor with only two rooms sharing. There are no TVs or radios. This is truly a place for a quiet seaside retreat.

Room Tip: Second floor of the main building is more quiet than first floor. Private baths are available but mo...

This was our first visit to Block Island. Our intent was to bicycle the island, staying in Room 9 at Sea Breeze. I asked for two comparable rooms as we were planning to stay with another couple. The owner stated, "I don't think we offer what you are looking for." As if I had never stayed in a B&B. We have traveled throughout the country and the world and prefer to stay in B&B's to get that homey feeling. The forecast predicted 3 days of rain, with both of us having motion sickness issues. I tried to reschedule in October, but we would lose our deposit of $280. We reluctantly made the trip after medication and were still extremely sick on the boat. We were never able to get in touch via phone when we had a question or problem. The breakfast is a pitiful SNACK of starch and fruit, no protein. There is no coffee available until breakfast. There were not enough bicycles TO RENT for us. I had to wait over an hour to take a shower as the water was a mere trickle. The shabby chic mirror in the bathroom was impossible to see an image in, let alone use for shaving. On top of all of this, the owner was NOT AVAILABLE to handle any issues. We went to several other B&B's on the island, all said they would keep our deposit and allow us to reschedule due to weather or illness. I would not recommend this B&B to anyone.

These guests wanted to cancel within two days of their reservation due to the weather forecast, not due to any illness. All of our other guests showed up for that same weekend. Our cancellation policy is stated on our website and was clearly explained to these guests. For the 30 years we have been in business, we have had the same cancellation policy, which is similar to the majority of establishments on the island. We commiserate with getting motion sickness from the ferries, and we know that often the weather is unpredictable. However, everyone takes a chance booking a trip to an island. We apologize that even due to the efforts of our staff to make these guests comfortable as soon as they arrived, these guests were just not happy.

We stayed at the Sea Breeze Inn for a long fall weekend in September 2012. I was with my parents (in their late 60s/70s) and my two kids (6 and 10). We stayed in the three rooms on the first floor of the main house. All the rooms were very cute and comfortable. We had a shared bathroom, and this was fine since we had taken over the first floor, but I would not recommend it if you were in a different situation. The only drawback was that the first floor was kind of busy and lacked privacy - I wouldn't pick these rooms for a romantic getaway but they were great for a family. And there are plenty of other more private rooms for the romantic folks.

The garden and the grounds of the Inn were absolutely beautiful, with all kinds of flowers. I was awoken one night by a deer chomping on the hostas outside my room! The view from the back of the inn is wonderful, and it is very nice to sit back there with breakfast and a cup of coffee. The inn offers use of a kayak in the nearby pond, and my kids loved this. We were out there every morning at dawn kayaking.

The management staff was very friendly and helpful. It was nice chatting with all of them.

As my son says, this was the best place we have stayed on BI>

Room Tip: Don't choose the bottom floor for privacy or romance, but great if you have a big family with a...

Hi Tarrytown Mom,
Than you for your nice review, and glad to hear you and your family enjoyed staying with us at The Sea Breeze. The Inlet Cottage, with its classic shingled exterior, was originally built as a boarding house. We have had the pleasure of hosting many families, couples, honeymooners, co-workers, groups of friends, and solo travelers in these charming rooms over the 25 years we have been in business. Guests often book several rooms together. There are 3 rooms on the first floor and 2 rooms upstairs. Each floor has its own bath and a sitting area. Sharing some common spaces with other guests is typical at all B+B’s. Guests feel at home in this cottage surrounded by lush gardens and ocean views. The very reasonable rate that we offer on these rooms with shared bath is a great option for a lot of our guests, some of whom perhaps would not be able to afford our more expensive rooms with private bath.
