Our family had a great time at Ballards. We stayed there for 3 nights over Labor Day weekend in 2007.

The rooms were very clean and had great views. As I remember we stayed in rooms 7&8, they both have balconies overlooking the entire Old Harbor area. The staff was very nice, and informative.

Overall we are pleased with our Ballards experience. These other reviews, do not make any sense, they are deeply confusing.

Took my grandkids to Ballard's. It was terrific. They had an arcade, a toy shop, and lifeguards on the beach. The grandkids had a great time in the water, and while I got to enjoy the live music I also got to sip on great chocolate mudslides. This was a great family place to go on the island.

My husband I have never been to Block Island- so after seeing Ballard's website and brochures, we thought this would be the perfect place for us. Their website is as misleading as they come. Their marketing company should be fined for the absolute false image they portray. Haven't they heard of false advertising?

Upon entering, we had to wait a long time for check in and the person at the desk was completely ignorant to everything. We headed up the dark dirty stairway to the rooms via the entrance to the kitchen.

The room had an air conditioner that worked and that was the only plus. The first thing I had to do was clean the inch of filth out of the filter on the ac. Secondly, I looked around at the dead bugs on the window sills- that overlooked the dumpsters behind the kitchen. The bed was a $5 mattress that didnt even have a bottom sheet. I wouldn't want my dog to sleep on it! So I entered the bathroom and saw the dirtiest rug on the floor that i have ever seen. The shower was dark, dirty and quite frankly scary. The toilet frightened me. For $190 a night- I would expect far better.

I walked to the nearest store and bought cleaner and went back and cleaned the toilet and shower. I went in the housekeeping closet and asked for towels and sheets but the girl did not understand english- so when she walked away I took enough towels to cover the entire floor and the bathroom floor. I poured a bottle of bleach in the shower.

Our first impression of BI was not a good one-clearly. As we walked from store to store and Inn to inn, we mentioned to people that we were staying at Ballard's. The look on their faces spoke volumes. The next day I went to talk to the manager- a woman by the name of Robin. I told her that I was very disappointed and that her website was very misleading. She walked away from me. I thanked her for being rude and went on my way.

I would not recommend this place to anyone- it was the only restaurant on the island that wasnt PACKED with people at night. I cannot believe how bad this place was!

It was a weekday, Walked in the Door, Front desk told me they had a room available. Booked it on the spot. Went to the beach, had some girls bring me drinks on the beach. Listened to live music, watched people dancing. It was a totally awesome time!
