No one ever misses the bluffs at Block Island. One of the best spots in the world. If you don't mind a good hike down and back up the stairs a day on the beach below is perfect. Bring a cooler and lots of sustenance.
This should definitely be on your list of to-dos during your trip to Block Island. There's a warning at the top of the steps that dictate the steep steps, but you see all the little kids and families do it. It's definitely steep, and the steps stop about 30-40 feet to the beach, and you end up climbing down the rocks with a piece of flimsy rope as your "handle". The view is worth it though. Lots of clay around the rocks and water, you end up giving yourself a natural spa treatment.
Be prepared to walk back up the stairs that lead down to the beach. Also read about the history of the Indians and the Bluffs...incredible.
It's hard to imagine that there are cliffs like that in Rhode Island. They look like something you'd expect to see on the coast of California.
Nothing beats in on the East COAST for spectacular scenery. A visit to the island would not be complete without seeing this. A reasonable walk from the ferry of maybe 45 minutes each way.
