“Fresh food, good restaurants, and local flavor”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2012

We visited the York Central Market annually and then skipped last year, so it had been two years since we visited. Two years ago we feared for the future of the market because the number of vendors and visitors seemed to have dwindled to next to nothing. We visited a week ago, and the market has roared back to life. With a viable mix of vendors serving cooked food and better seating choices plus more purveyors of locally produced food like honey and baked goods, mixed with the reliable long time butchers and other meat sellers, my husband and I found the energy, enthusiasm, and food choices had returned. We chose the simple breakfast of eggs and bacon but many people were lined up waiting for the fancier breakfast of Mezzo Giorno. There were families coming and going the whole time. I loaded up on purchases of pork and bologna we can't find back home, plus sandwiches and cookies to go, and I was very happy with my return visit to the York Central Market. A must see for any visitor to downtown York.

“Don't bother to stop here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 29, 2012

Perhaps for locals (like within walking distance), this market may have some advantage for purchasing meats and limited produce. Perhaps because of the season, this was very limited. As far as flea markets, think of the cheesiest flea you have ever been to and multiply the disappoiontment.

“Great find!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2012

A market with good options of local produce, sweets, and home cooking. While traveling up I-83 we decide to stop here to grab lunch, It was an easy on/off from the interstate. When we went, there was free parking in a lot across the street which, this was a Saturday. There was a food court area that had live music and a 150 seats or so. The food options included deli style counter tops, a couple of home made soup stands (wife opted for the stand in the seating area and it was great) BBQ, burger stand, fish market, plus a couple others. I had a fish and soft shell crap sandwich from the Fish Market. Really good, made right in front of you and for a nice price. Got a side of fries from JR's. Really good food from both places! Loaded up on sweets for the road from the bakery right in the middle of the market, cookies, pies, apple dumplings, fudge, etc. all made right there. There was also a local winery there giving free tasting and we ended up getting a bottle as well. Also a returant with table service that has a brewery, which we did not go into but it another option. A great place to stop if you are driving past York to try some local food and products!

“Interesting place- good food!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 2, 2011

My boyfriend and I visited York PA for a farm to table dinner hosted by York's own Accomac Inn. The dinner was awesome! It was in the middle of a farm and all of the food was raised/ harvested with in 20 miles if the city (Wines, cheeses, duck, rabbit, short ribs, squash etc). York its self is pretty dead. Although has some cool bars, such as Cobblestones, with a great beer list. We stayed at the Roadside Inn- not fancy by any means but it did the trick- room was clean and perfect walking distance to everything. If you go- hit up the central market for Coffee and some great food (I suggest the roasted Chestnut with a double shot) and the Sun Rise soap company. It was a cool little town to visit for the two nights we were there, hopefully in the coming years business gets better and more shops and restaurants will open. I would go back.

“Historical building, great place to eat lunch and shop for meat or veggies”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2011

Many different restaurants and vendors inside. You have to try the fried fish sandwich at the seafood place and the fried chicken that rivals KFC. You can also by fruits, vegetables and meats. Not open on Sunday.
