“F$%# roomsaver. We found an awesome hotel!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2012

Wow. After coming back from a whirlwind 4 day trip between Syracuse, NY to Lancaster, PA, Baltimore, MD, Mt. Laurel, NJ and Philly, PA we decided to settle in Willkes- Barre, Pa. After going through all the 'coupons' in our 'Roomsaver' catalog and finding that none of these chains would take them (yes, we contacted Roomsaver about this and were told they were not participating hotels/motels) we decided to do a local search on the GPS where we found the holy grail of hotels. The Econo Lodge offered us the best rates in the area and they had vacancies. Personally, I am very fussy about hotel rooms and I obsessively check Tripadvisor before booking anything, but this time took a chance. I was a bit trepidatious
at first but my experience here was awesome. We called up only a few minutes before we actually showed up and everyone was friendly and polite. I walked in and was acknowledged right away. The girl at the front desk ( I wish I could remember her name) was very kind and accommodating. Check in was quick and we were able to get to our room right away. The room was awesome. Very spacious, clean, great view from the window....very very clean room and bathroom. FREE Breakfast with a ton of options even for big eaters like my fiancee!

Stayed there for 2 nights while our son played Invasion of Normandy at Skirmish (a little bit far from there but we have limited options because we travel with a dog).
Good hotel overall. Clean rooms, nice condition. Quiet - even with window open there was not much noise from the highway (our window was facing to the back).
They are really per friendly, there is a dog walking area.
I'm very smell sensitive and can't say there was any disturbing smell from smoking or after cleaning as it happens often in other motels.
They have quite decent breakfast - we didn't feel a need to go somewhere else both mornings (despite they have Perkins right in front of the hotel).
And lastly their staff is really welcoming.

We found this hotel to be quite a gem. Our room was comfortable, quiet and amazingly clean. And thanks to their accomodating staff who went above and beyond our expecations when my husband wasn't feeling well on our vacation. You could not find a better place to stay for the price. We will definitley make this our Wilkes-Barre hotel anytime we visit.

As other reviews have said, this is one of the nicer Econo Lodges. That said, if you have any sensitivity to smoke, I recommend you stay away. Our floor was half smoking rooms and half non-smoking. The entire hallway smelled strongly of smoke. We were lucky enough to have rooms at the far end of the non-smoking hallway, but I heard a guest complain about that her non-smoking room had a smoky smell pervading it. The desk clerk was sympathetic, and was able to give her a discount.

The free breakfast was OK, but more extensive than other Econo Lodges I've stayed in which usually just have cereal, coffee and Danish. The staff was a bit slow at replenishing some of the food and supplies. Unlike other places I've stayed, though, there was enough breakfast seating area for the guests.

I've stayed at some seedy Econo Lodges in the past so I wasn't sure what to expect from this one. However the reviews were good and the price was right so we gave it a shot. My main concerns in a hotel for an overnight stay are cleanliness, quietness, good internet service and friendly staff. If your priorities are similar you will be pleased with this Econo Lodge, as it earned an A+ on all those accounts. Would definitely stay here again.

Sometimes when you think Econo Lodge, you think of the old tired hotel that was 3 names before it and instead of upgrading a worn out hotel, they change it to a cheaper brand. This is not the case with this property which exceeded my expectations.

While there are a few aging aspects of this hotel, the property is kept very clean. The check in was very fast and efficient. The staff was courteous and I was able to check in fairly quickly. The room was a basic room.

The room amenities were not the most modern (i.e. no flat panel TV) but the room included a refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, and ironing equipment. The room was clean and everything was in working order. The bed was a little on the softer side but you usually find this at most hotels. The bathroom was clean but the towels were on the thinner side but they were clean.

The hotel amenities were above expectations. The breakfast was basic with toast, bagels, toaster waffles, yogurt, muffins, cereal, juice, coffee, etc. There were no hot entrees. The hotel does pride itself that is going above the minimum requirements for this brand hotel. A free local paper is available in the front lobby on the days I was there.

I gave this property 5 stars. I did not give it a high star rating because it is better than the higher end hotels but because they exceeded my expectations in most items. You only get what you pay for and if you are looking for a basic budget hotel that goes above and beyond, this is the place. If you are looking for the luxury of the higher end properties this is not the place for you.

We found this a very nice hotel. The hotel staff was very friendly. Check in and check out were efficient. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet. Bathroom was clean (yea!) with soft, fluffy towels. Free breakfast was the usual fare: coffee, juice, yogurt, cereal, pastries, eggs....and we enjoyed it. Stay here when you are in the area.
