“Great room, pleasant staff”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

We sometimes go to Wilkes-Barre for fall leaf peeping about the second week of October. We've stayed at this hotel before, and it was just as good as the last time. The staff was very friendly. The room was large, divided into two rooms. The bedroom with a king bed was good. The living/kitchen area was also good with a couch and a comfortable chair.

On our second day, my wife got sick and we had to extend our stay by an extra day. The front desk helped us out to let us stay in the same room, even though they were pretty fully booked. In fact that evening I saw a person come in and ask for a room -- but by then they were full up. The desk clerk helped them find another nearby hotel that had rooms.

It is worth mentioning that Expedia had the hotel room listed at about 30% off the web site price. When we extended the extra day, they gave us the Expedia rate -- a very nice and unexpected guesture.

There were only two negative things worth mentioning. The temperature was on the edge where we wanted a little heat instead of air conditioning. The thermostat was an analog sliding switch that made it hard to set the temperature.

The breakfast was OK, but not special. Since the hotel does not have a restaurant (TGIF is next door, but not part of the restaurant) they don't have any kitchen to prepare the ubiquitous scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, french toast type of breakfast buffet. Instead they had some sort of a egg & cheese omelet that you heated up in the microwave. They did have bacon -- probably ready cooked and heated up in the back room microwave. It was decent. Best items on the breakfast were the usual waffle machine and the bowl of mixed fruits.

The hotel is a little bit hard to find. If you see the entrance (at a traffic light) that leads to the TGIF, then that is the correct place.

Room Tip: The valley side has a nicer view, but the express way down below had a good bit of road noise. The...

Well what can I say it was excellent again. The first stay was really good and this was even better. We were greeted with a warm and friendly check in by the receptionist and the hotel manager. As we had stayed recently and the hotel was a little quiet we were upgrated to the most splendid room. The wife enjoyed a jacuzzi bubble bath in the window overlooking the valley. Gorgeous.
Very spacious, clean suite with everything you could need. Coffee also on offer at the reception.
The breakfast has everything you could want with crispy bacon on offer which pleased the wife no end.
Easy access for the interstate, shopping and plenty of places to eat.
We stopped here en route to Rhode Island having had a long day travelling.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the valley are a treat

The front desk was helpful. The room was large, but not extravagent. Everything was better than i expected when I Booked it. I was extremely pleased. My safe did not work, which is the only thing that I found disappointing. I would gladly book this hotel again if I was in the area.

Large room with kitchenette along with upgrade to jacuzzi suite. Clean, facilities about average. Friendly staff. Mediocre and typical "free" breakfast at best. I can't say there are any problems with the hotel, it's just the average room, albeit suite, found on the road these days.

I had to be in the area for a wedding, so I chose to stay at this hotel because they allowed pets. I stayed one night with my husband and two small dogs.

The room was a nice size and had a kitchen, but the carpet was dirty and the room had a bad smell that we couldnt get rid of. The room had not been well cleaned, there was dog hair all over the couch, an overflowing trash can under the sink in the bathroom area, and one of my dogs kept picking dried ramen noodles out of the carpet.

I suspect we were put in the "dog" room since we were traveling with our dogs, so the other rooms might be in better shape. Still, I have stayed in many hotels with my pets, and none of them were this dirty or smelly.

There was a $20 per dog per night pet fee, which I was not told about when I reserved the room. So it ended up being an expensive stay for a not so nice room. I was disappointed. I will avoid this hotel in the future, and would advise others to do the same if they are traveling with a pet!
