“A little piece of heaven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2013

We are from Ontario and travel to the States about once a month if we can. We stayed here for 2 nights in early October on our yearly fall colour tour and loved it. We should've stayed an extra night instead of stopping along the way on our trip to Pennsylvannia. The staff was very friendly and the hotel was so cozy. We parked the car and never left again until we checked out to go home. There are 2 restaurants and both are very good. They are both at the back of the property overlooking a beautiful little stream and waterfalls. The weather was very warm when we were there so we got to sit out on the deck and just relax and watch the little waterfall.....Just heaven!!!! Breakfast was included and better than most places that we stay. Lots of fresh fruit and eggs to order. The hot tub was huge and beautiful and the pool was equally as nice and very warm. We always like to stay in places with a pool, but find alot of times they are too cool for our preference. The Woodland's pool was an excellent temperature for us and we swam everyday. It was a nice touch with the Keurig coffee makers in the room and in the lobby.
There were some nice trails out behind the resort to get some exercise and also an outdoor pool and huge fitness room. It was a very quaint resort and if you are travelling anywhere near Wilkes-Barre, we highly recommend staying here.

Room Tip: We were on a wing just off the lobby and it was very quiet with a nice balcony overlooking a little...

Dear Michelle:

Your words provide encouragement to every staff member and lets them know what a wonderful job they do in providing superior customer service. We have hotel rooms that have private balconies with views of the Laurel Run Stream, you might want to ask for one of those rooms next time your in town. The view in winter when the stream is ice covered is beautiful.

We hope to see you again soon.

Thank you,

Ross Kornfeld

Even with a fully booked hotel and 3 weddings the staff was very attentive. The beds are comfy, the indoor jacuzzi and pool are great, the grounds are beautiful. This is our second stay and we are already planning our next visit. To top off our great weekend we won $600 at the casino :)

Thank you for the kind words. How fast would you like to come back? There are some great concerts at the F.M. Kirby Center in October. Alice Cooper 10/18, Cindy Lauper 10/22, Ghost Hunters Live on 10/23. We have a specific package that includes your ride to/from the venue. Call or book on-line 570-824-9831 or thewoodlandsresort.com ask for "Got Your Tickets" package.

Thank you,

We stayed one night to celebrate our anniversary. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. The view of the woods and stream from the deck bar (where we also had breakfast) was beautiful. We also walked the wooded path behind the hotel, by the water, which we discovered by accident. We took advantage of the free casino shuttle which was very convenient and the driver was very friendly. The casino package we purchased was well worth the $ and included a great breakfast. We will be returning!

We appreciate the kind review. Our Romance package is a great way to celebrate your anniversary. We offer a choice of champagne or wine, chocolate dipped strawberries, complimentary cocktails and breakfast for two.

Ask about our packages next time your travel plans bring you to Wilkes-Barre.

Thank you,

Very disappointed tonight.....I'd booked a room here for three nights as the Woodlands was listed as pet-friendly (general pet by all the info I could find on the Woodlands site as well as any others including Choice Hotels and pet-friendly sites)....so I checked in tonight, and started to take my stuff in including my cat (older, very well behaved), when I was told by the manager that they only allow dogs. So after driving 7 hours from Boston and 3 hours from home, I had to find another hotel. The manager on duty, Melinda, did call around looking for somewhere, but was pretty cold overall...especially considering nowhere in writing does it say anything about not allowing cats and I stay at Choice Hotels A LOT. I ended up at the Extended Stay America....cheaper, larger and nicer room, later check-out, and super nice staff. I travel A LOT for business and I think I have found a new alternative place to stay when in Wilkes-Barre....just up the road from the Woodlands.

Room Tip: Check out the Extended Stay America nearby.,....cheaper, larger, nicer rooms as well as really nice...

Thank you for taking the time to complete your review regarding your recent visit our hotel.

We very much apologize for not accommodating you and your cat. The main reason we don't allow cats is that many people are allergic. To protect future guests we decided not to accept cats. The pet policy on our website specifically says dogs only.

Sincerely,

Excellent : From the room amenities to the great morning breakfasts. From the courteous staff to the pleasant restaurant employees. From the enormous spa and pool to the small details of comfort. From the convenient shopping, casino, and highway to the beautiful northeastern outdoors. Woodlands is that special place you need to go to relax and enjoy if only for a day.

Room Tip: Creek side rooms have a terrific view of the stream with a forest backdrop. Quite in the evenings wi...

My Husband and I stayed here and found it very dated and needing some major updating. Our room was clean but needing some TLC. Dark Tan/Brown wallpaper was peeling off the walls and our room was very small, facing the car dealership next door.. The restaurants were OK. We were given coupons to cover the breakfast buffet which would have been $10.00 otherwise. It is the same breakfast we get for free when staying at the many other hotels we have stayed in. We travel often and will not be back when in the area.

Room Tip: Unless you are traveling alone don't take the corner room on the fourth floor

The facilities are very nice but the one complaint I have is that the dinning areas and rooms were too spread out and confusing to find. Room was very clean and comfortable. Loved the walk in shower but lacked safety grab bars. The dinner and breakfast was very flavorful.
