Teetered back and forth between 2 and 3 stars on this one. It's not to their advantage that I've stayed in some pretty nice hotels lately, but this property has certainly seen better days. Beginning with an elevator ride to the third floor (with signs posted - renovations in progress) that was a little spooky (long wait for the door to close, took forever to get to the third floor, creaking all the way), and then several nights with a ventilation unit that simply has twist nobs where you can approximate the desired temperature. (I know this used to be the norm, but...) Part of the room was always cold. Part of the room was unbearably hot. ALL of the room was incredibly dry since the fan was blowing all the time. I always get dried out in hotel rooms, but this one was especially challenging on that front. The pool area in the center of the complex is pretty nice, (though I didn't use it) all under a covered roof for all-season use. The fitness room was better than I expected, with fairly up-to-date equipment, and more than they appeared to need.
I would say service was mixed, but well intentioned! A DJ arrives on Thursday and Friday night to play music so deafeningly loud that you really don't want to be anywhere near the bar. And I put out my room service tag (which stated that I could do so until 2:00 am) the first night, only to realize that it was never picked up and I nearly missed an opportunity to grab breakfast. But the front desk staff was quite helpful and pleasant over several interactions, and I found the restaurant staff to be particularly welcoming.
Whenever I stay at a place like this, I can't help but wonder what it was like back in the day, when cars had big fins, and the Holiday Inn signs where bedecked in 'moving lights.' Guessing this was one of western PAs most coveted overnight stays back when the Interstate was new. Still a viable place to stay, but that new hotel across the freeway looks mighty alluring!
Make sure you're NOWHERE NEAR the bar if you stay on a Thursday or Friday night. Can't imag...

As you noted the hotel is in the middle of extensive renovations with the courtyard, pool and fitness spaces being completed. Work in our public restrooms and dining room are already underway and our guest room work will start in December.
We hope that you will give us another chance to serve you again in the future.
