“Do NOT order the special! What a rip-off!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 18, 2014

Spent St. Patty's Day at Doc's. Party if 4. $1 oysters (certain varieties) - not bad, but the oysters here are always a bit sandy. The shuckers could use a lesson in rinsing. Dad ordered the corned beef and cabbage special - it was OK at best. I ordered the blackened scallops - very good actually. 4 large scallops served with mashed cauliflower and mixed veggies, for $24 - not a bargain, but very tasty. My husband made the big mistake of the night - he ordered the NY Strip steak with grilled shrimp, on special. Sounds good, right? Well, the steak came out and we were shocked to see that it was tiny! Honestly, the tiniest NY strip I have ever seen. It looked like an average-sized steak cut in half. When the server came back to check on us, I asked her how many ounces the steak was supposed to be, and she said 6 ounces. Well, that explained why it was so tiny, but not why a restaurant would serve a "petite" strip (NOT a filet), NOT warn you that you're ordering a miniature size steak, and then have the gall to charge you $29 for it?! True, it was also served with 4 medium-sized (not jumbo, or even extra-large, I'd say) shrimp, and a potato (French fries, in this case), but honestly -$29? That was a crime! We will likely not return any time soon. The quality of food and the service here have declined over the past couple of years, while the prices have increased. Shame, as we used to be "regulars" here... :(

“Great Fish & Chips”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2014

If your passing thur West Chester on Gay St stop at this Resturant. Was the prefect place to either hang at the bar for a cold draft or have a casual diner. The place has a warm feeling with friendly staff. The New England chowder was prefect, creamy with a hint of bacon. The fish & chips, fresh cod fish was used and the batter was light. Check their website for nightly special on $1 Oyster, live music, etc

“Pre dinner drinks”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2014

I'd call it somewhere between average and "very good"... maybe "better than average". It's a cool looking place, bar area might be better suited for a small group of friends than a pre-dinner drink stop. The drink selection wasn't extensive but the ones we had were pretty good, I'll come back here for dinner and have a better review I'm sure.

“Oysters in a funky setting”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2014

Very fresh oysters and a lively vibe. Interesting because this place used to be a funeral home.
The restaurant is dark and can be noisy but it makes for an atmospheric place to enjoy a meal and a drink. Service was good. Parking in West Chester is tricky, so go early.
