“They confuse politeness with quality!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2010

After checking in for a several day stay we could not get into the room, nearly 1 1/2 hours later they determined that the battery in the door lock was bad, however there was no one available to change it so we were moved to another room. This other room was next to the ice machine, which cycled every hour all night. Also the first night we learned the hard way that the fridge did not work. (lost several items ) However it appeared that the previous guest had unplugged it because as we learned the second night, that it was noisier than the ice machine. After several unsuccessful attempts to get another room we had to leave for our family event. We tried several times over a three day period to be moved and although everyone at the hotel was polite, no one made any attempt to solve any of the problems. This is not a typical marriott property.

I stayed here for three nights in July 2011. The hotel was totally booked with many of the guests attending a nearby multiday sports event. Despite this, the hotel handled the crowd smoothly and provided excellent service. It's was very new so everything was clean and in working order. I stayed in another Springhill Suites the previous week where this was NOT the case. The front desk staff was extremely friendly and went out of their way to accommodate special requests.

The spacious and sunny lobby has plenty of room for sitting around plus room for the free breakfast with food for everyone. A large flat screen TV is located there and there are free daily newspapers (WSJ, local paper and USA Today). My room was spotless, with another flatscreen TV with lots of channels, a separate small seating area, microwave, and small kitchen area with fridge and sink.

The hotel is located about a 20 minute drive outside of Pittsburgh in the back corner of a large complex of shopping malls with low to mid-quality stores and restaurants. Nothing special at all. If you want a good meal or better shopping you'll have to drive somewhere else. There is a small selection of microwavable foods for sale at the front desk.

A small business center off the lobby had PCs and printers for use. Everything worked fast and efficiently.

All, in all this particular Springhill Suites delivered exactly what it promised.

My wife & I stayed here for the Miss Pa pageant held at the syria mosque. It was convenient for all of our Rt 28 travels even into the burg! Front desk staff were very helpful--a great restaurant recommendation in Atrias. Hotel was sold out but had little trouble with any needs. Would definitely stay here again.

We stayed one night here. Everything was excellent. We met friends who were staying nearby, and the hotel management was most accomodating to us as well as to them. The day manager turned on the gas fireplace and offered coffee and tea to our friends, very nice touch. The room is very spacious, the breakfast is plentiful and set up to keep crowding down, even when busy. It is located an easy drive of a few minutes off the Pa. Turnpike, and then it's another couple minutes drive off Route 28, just past the mall.

Room laid out beautifully and has everything you need and is new and clean, but it is VERY overpriced for the area. When you pay this much for a room, everything should work well. The sink didn't drain, the TV remote didn't work, and the wall thermostat was at least 8-10 degrees off. When told, management said they'd be fixed, none ever was and communication between night staff and day staff doesn't exist. And no discount on the room was given at check-out because they said I didn't give them a chance to fix the problems. Isn't telling them on your first day of a 2-day stay enough of a chance??? And don't bother contacing Marriott nationally about the problems, they just kick it back to the local establishment where you had the problems in the first place.

Horrible staff, horrible management. So-so rooms. They take advantage of being the only hotel in that immediate area. Horrible breakfast. Horrible horrible pool, small and smelly. The worst part was the lack of common courtesy from the staff. Need all new staff and MANAGEMENT. Puts Marriott in a very bad light..........NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!

The SpringHill Suites in Pittsburgh Mills is an immaculately clean, new hotel in the heart of the old coal mining area of western PA. It is perfectly located on the fringe of Pittsburgh city. It only takes about 20 minutes to get downtown or to a Steelers, Pirates or Penguins game. But it is far enough in the "boonies" that you don't have to worry about traffic, parking or "Downtown" rates. Located in the heart of Pittsburgh Mills Mall, you have access to every possible service you need... restaurants, stores, bars, and conveniences.
