“Not worth it”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 14, 2013

Below average ambience.. very small portion sizes. poor service.. The food quality was ok, but overall experience was not worth it. They charged 20% gratuity in the bill (for a family of four) and provided an extremely poor service.. This is place is avoidable.

“Great setting, great food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 11, 2013

We went there for my son's birthday party. It was worth going, we drove almost 30 miles to reach there. We had great time. The food is very good and we really enjoyed the place.

Indian food is very authentic and tasty though little pricey. I will go there any time even this place is so far from our town.

“Charming setting, good food”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2013

This is certainly a unique dining experience in a renovated train dining car set along a Days Inn parking lot. Although it's not quite The Orient Express, it is a quaint and rather charming setting for dining in Tannersville, PA. More surprising than the setting, however, is the food. It is mostly delicious! I've gone for the lunch buffet a number of times as well as having dined a la carte in the evenings and I have not yet been disappointed in the food. The tandoori chicken ordered off the menu in the evenings has been fresh and yummy, served on a just as tasty bed of cabbage subzi. Highly recommended. I live in New York and frequent the Indian places in Jackson Heights and Hicksville and I would say the food is on par with most of them. The prices are higher than you'd find in Queens and Long Island (about double) although I suppose that is to be expected out in the middle of nowhere like this.

The only disappointing dish I have had here was the Vindaloo. It was way too vinegary the time I ordered it to the point it was inedible. We left most of it and did not take the leftovers home with us. Also, the service has been hit or miss. Sometimes, the wait staff is barely attentive enough while at others, they barely ever come to ask how things are. On these occasions, hailing a server to get more water can be quite the chore when none are present for long stretches. If that is the way the wait staff operates, I'd just rather they leave pitchers or carafes of water at the table like they do at many New York restaurants rather than passing off their brand of lazy, inattentive service.

Overall though, if you are looking for Indian food in the Stroudsburg area, you'd be hard pressed at the moment to find a better one than Tandoor Palace.

“great food+ new style ambiance”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 7, 2013

i guess thats the only indian restaurant in the area. we have tried many indian restaurants elsewhere and so can definately compare food. the food here was great. everything ranging from bread to curry, dal was tempting. definately worth a try. we had a take out at our rental place since we were large group,so cant say much about service. but heard that the place is made resembling a train boggie giving it a different and unique expirence.

“Oasis on I-80”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 5, 2013

If you are looking for an escape from the usual chain food fare along I-80 in Eastern Pennsylvania, then Tandoor Palace is an excellent choice. It is literally right off the interstate so easy to access and then get back on to I-80 to continue your travels. We were there for dinner when there was only a la carte service and no buffet. The menu goes well beyond the standard Americanized Indian fare and even includes specifically designated Jain selections. The prices were reasonable and the food was quite tasty and comparable to Indian restaurants in more urban environments. To top it all off, you can ear in a restored rail road car so you feel like you are dining on the rails in an earlier era. Considering the unique ambience and the food quality relative to the location, this is a wonderful choice to break up a trip along I-80.
