“Toy Trains Come To Life For Boys and Girls”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 19, 2011

Our grandchildren love Thomas the Train and his many, many associates such as, Percy, James, Gordon, Mavis, etc.....When we visited Strasburg RR in Strasburg, Pa. they had an opportunity to see many very large and useful engines at full size. We also rode the open air car for the 45 minute train ride they offer which is pulled by an original Penn RR locomotive....#90....They loved it, we loved them loving it, and it was a very special day....top it all off with a visit in Strasburg to the Strasburg Cramery for an original large ice cream sundae and its a memorbale day that will last forever.....!!!!

“Bring a picnic lunch.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2011

This 45 min Steam Train ride was part of the COMBO voucher tickets we purchased in order to go on the ride and see the RR museum of PA, located across the street. This portion (ride) is great for families with children.

Tip #1
Get a ride early in the day and bring a picnic lunch. Then you can get dropped off at the picnic area and enjoy an hour there eating and playing on the swings & teeter totters before getting picked up on the next train!

TIP #2:
Check their online website (www.strasburgrailroad.com) & calendar! As a couple with no children at home, this was a 'lifesaver' for us! We planned our trip at a time BEFORE the Thomas the Tank Week was to begin!!! There were preparations being made while we were there but we knew it would be extremely crowded & crazy beginning the next day! They also list the options, costs and special events too; so do your 'homework' - it may help with your all around experience.

Yes, it is a short, slow moving ride but very relaxing. We sat in the open coach and enjoyed the breeze and scenery. Don't forget to explore the grounds too. Miniature steam train for the kids and other activities and shops. We ate lunch at the cafe which was a little pricey but with no other options, we didn't have much of a choice. We'd probably go back again but not in the summer, too crowded! Possibly in the beautiful fall or for one of the evening Wine rides.

So Sit Back and Enjoy the Ride!

“Not worth the price.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 16, 2011

Visited the railroad and took a train ride - paid for the First Class car, which was $20 a person -- they say the ride is 45 minutes, but after waiting for the cars to change halfway through, the "ride" is actually less than 30 minutes. The museum which was another $14 for the two of us, is located across the street from the train station. It has lots of history and actual train cars - very interesting and informative.

“An inexpensive, relaxing way to step back in time.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011

The rail road trip was an excellent last minute idea that wound up being a highlight of the trip. Tickets were close to $10 pp and we chose the open seating cars on a beautiful July evening. We spent 45 minutes traveling through gorgeous farm country and heard interesting tid-bits from the overhead speaker. (Be warned...it is very difficult to hear in the open cars). There are shops and kids attractions at the rail station that make this is pleasant way to spend an hour or two.
