We enjoyed our stay here. Reading some previous reviews about the differences between staying in the rooms right inside the farmhouse itself verses staying in the drive up motel style rooms in Carriage House had me confused. The lower priced more private drive up "newly renovated" with what seemed like the most amenities (fridge micro and Keurig coffeemaker) were the drive up Carriage house rooms. So, between the lower pricing and the new renovations we of course opted for the less expensive Carriage house rooms. Well, we couldn't have made a better choice. We loved our room (room #500) . We were given a room close to the steps into the parking lot so it was very convenient. The porch had beautiful hanging blooming flowers hanging and it was just lovely.
The room was a little on the smaller size and I actually welcomed it because we had just checked out of a different more commercialized hotel with a suite, while that suite was big and beautiful this room albeit on the small size in comparison was extremely cozy and made our last night in Amish Country feel so romantic. We unfortunately could only stay for one night as we had been in PA. for a few days in various cities doing some other tourist attractions (Hershey Gettysburg etc) but were so happy that atleast the last night we had a cozy room on a huge farm with live animals and the charm of the Amish country. With the buggys going by right along the same road as the Hershey Farm. So, I'm sure the slightly higher priced rooms in the Inn itself are probably lovely I am happy with the chose of staying in the Carriage house. We visited the chicken coop and took a walk to look at the ducks and even enjoyed a dip in the pool. It was a really warm day too (the water was just a little too cool) still nice though a little heated would be nice also :) My boyfriend really was excited as well, and he usually doesn't make a big deal either way but he was elated over the HUGE flat screen TV in our room. He kept saying I can't believe that they put such a a nice big flat screen TV in that kind of a room. We did have a long week so we did make it an early night that evening and just ate at the Inns restaurant and back to our room. We were watching the TV and just relaxing although it felt like we were in a movie theatre..lol.. so it was the end to a perfect day being cozy and comfortable watching a movie before bed.
The rooms a/c worked fine and they had a dehumidifier in there as well. There wasn't any smell or dampness like I read in some other reviews. You have to adapt to your surroundings and sometimes acclimate yourself and your mind into not expected the same thing every time you go to a hotel or resort you've never been to. So, if a place doesn't have all the bells and whistles as some of the chain more commercialized hotel/inns etc you also have to say well they don't have fresh beautiful flowers hanging right outside your door or beautiful farm animals a few feet away and a view you want to remember for a long time after you leave. As long as the room is clean and you have all the amenities you need, then enjoy it for what it is. With that said I would definitely recommend the Hershey Farm & Motor Inn and would like to return in near future.
