“Great for a family trip”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 27, 2008

My daughter and I enjoyed the Hershey Farm. The outdoor pool is very nice and I wish I would have had more time to spend poolside. They have a cute, little petting area for the children. The restaurant food is good but not outstanding. Overall, the hotel is charming.

The Hershey Farm Inn was a nice change from the typical, sterile chain hotel room we've become accustomed to staying in. The room was quite nice; I wouldn't call the decor outdated - after all, it is a bed-and-breakfast-type accommodation. I found it quite charming, and the pond, walking paths, gardens and animals made for a very relaxing stay. The gift shop and bakery were nice to browse through and we bought a few nice souvenirs. The mini-whoopie pies in our room was a nice touch!

We stayed in a two-bedroom unit in the Farmhouse, which was ideal as we had a 3-year-old to put to bed early. Each room had its own TV and A/C. The beds were very comfortable and the rooms for the most part were clean, except for the bathroom. The tub/shower area was not very clean (hairs and grime, and old caulking cracking off) and I had to clean it myself several times before I gave my son his bath. Yuck. The bedrooms also showed some signs of age - a few holes and cracks in the walls/wallpaper.

But the value was great - only $110 for the five of us, including the breakfast buffet, which wasn't bad, although some items didn't appear too fresh and there was no fresh, unsweetened fruit for my son. But it's better than stale bagels and instant oatmeal in a chain hotel lobby!

Overall, a very good value and a nice place to stay. Definitely recommend it for the value-conscious traveller who is looking for comfortable accommodations, with an ideal location for the outlets and also for Strasburg activities.

We found the hotel on the Lancaster PA website and decided on it over many others; mainly because of its promise of serene surroundings, the bakery and the restaurant. We were not disappointed at all. Our room was at the Country Meadow; it was clean, spacious and had a wonderful view of the gardens next to the Millenium Theatre. All the hotel staff were very friendly and helpful from Christie at the front desk when we first checked in, to Deanna at the Restaurant (who greeted us each morning with a smile and friendly service); and not forgetting Brett (whom we had to get out of bed at midnight on our first night because the front lobby was not manned that evening and we did not realise there was a back entrance for guests). Brett was cheerful and helpful even at that time of the night and even after it dawned on both he and us that we could have gone in the back way!! Overall, a wonderful experience which we will definitely recommend to anyone travelling in that area. Most of the other hotels are along the main road and do not offer the same serenity. Going to the sites around would have to involve some driving whether here or along the main road and a few additional minutes of drive from the hotel to the main intersection of 896 and route 30 is nothing.

Being a hotel manager myself the cleanliness of the room was great. I loved the breakfast buffet. In fact I have made another reservation for this month. Great location! Keep up the good work!

We were traveling with our Grandson over Memorial Day Weekend. I booked at Hershey Farm Inn. Because of the baby, and some health problems of mine, I require a room with a microwave and fridge. We were alos excited about the breakfast pictured on the web site, and the farm animals for the baby to see. We booked the "rustic" style room. Our confirmation said it included our above requests, as well as internet and breakfast. We arrived at 7:30 on Friday night. We were surprised to find out that the restaurant closed at 8:00 PM. We found that odd for one that serves not only the hotel, but the public as well. We checked in and hurried to dinner. Our first impression of the food was not great. It seemed overpriced for the quality. Our room was a good size and the beds were comfortable. As promised, the pack and play was assembled and waiting. However, our first challenge was when my husband ( a computer programmer), tried to find the internet service to do some work he had brought along. I called the desk to report the problem, and was told that internet was only available in the main building and not the two other buildings. The second problem, was that the remote to the tv was not working. The room did have a (very tiny) microwave, that did not have alot of power. The fridge was also very tiny, and because the bar was broken off of the door, we were unable to store anything there. This made the useable area very small. However, as we prepared for the night, we were happy to see that the room was clean and efficient. At breakfast the next day, we found the food to be a little better than dinner. We overheard a local talking with the waitress about how the quality has gone down. After breakfast, we went to show the baby the two areas with animals. We were disapointed to find that the area near the pond that housed the donkey and other animals was closed to the public. There was; however, a small area near the main building that had some goats and sheep. The overall outside area, was not quite as nice as shown on the web, but it was still nice. We were also happy with the location. It was very convenient to all of the local attractions. Overall, the room was an ok value.

I would like to thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback regarding your recent stay at the Hershey Farm Inn. It is our goal to provide a memorable experience for all who visit our property.

I apologize that your stay did not meet your expectations. The fact that we do not have WIFI access throughout the entire property should have been made known to you and the need to have your remote reprogammed would have been a source of frustration. I appreciate your input in making us aware of the needed fridge repair. In regards to the size and power of the fridge & microwave, we have limited ampage available for the rooms in the Farmhouse & Carriage House, and thus we need to use small, low wattage appliances.

We are in the midst of completing an all new Animal Barn on our property that will house the current animals, as well as numerous new arrivals. Unfortunately, during the time of your stay, the number of animals on site was at a minimum.

I thank you again for taking the time to give us feedback on your visit. It is our desire to provide exceptionally clean rooms, a delicious breakfast, and an overall top-notch experience at Hershey Farm Restaurant & Inn.

Sincerely,

Brett D. Eby

Stayed Memorial Day weekend. Hershey Farm Inn is close to Dutch Wonderland and Strasburg. Great for families. Price is reasonable and includes a breakfast buffet (typical fare of scramble eggs, potatoes, and pork breakfast products plus local specialties such as whoopie pie and shoofly pie). Located in the middle of Amish country; horse and buggy rides available across the street. Small petting area with goats and sheep. Landscaping well manicured. Rooms separated into 3 buildings: Country Meadow, Amish Farmhouse and a name I cannot recall. Country Meadow appear to be the most modern one with an attached outdoor pool and wifi access. We stayed in the Amish Farmhouse; the interior appear dated but the bedding was adequate.

This was an unknown place to me and am I thrilled that I took a chance. The Inn is perfectly located to get in all the sites of Lancaster. Their restaurant was great, both breakfast and dinner; the rooms are clean and comfortable and the staff were all friendly.

My stay was PUR FECT and I can't wait to go again.
