“The Best Tex Mex in central PA”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 11, 2013 via mobile

We lived along the Rio Grande in El Paso for ten years and dined often at local Southwestern and Tex Mex cafés and frequently at numerous spots across the River in Juarez. Don Patron is a nice import to the State College area. From the Huevos Ranchero to the most outstanding Chicken Tortilla soup we have ever had, it is certainly a must go to place.

“Awful”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed November 18, 2013

My boyfriend and I decided to go here for lunch since we love Mexican food. I don't understand how anyone can call this "Mexican" food - let alone "authentic". It was downright awful - the sauces served with the dishes looked/tasted like canned food. The food was overpriced considering it was absolutely tasteless and canned (cheap). The only positive was the service. Would not recommend this place.

“Good for State College”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 6, 2013

You are in a college town in the middle of rural PA. You shouldn't expect the true Southwestern experience. However, the staff is friendly and accomodating. While you may have some skeptics/purists that want a meal prepared by a Mexican grandmother, I am not sure that the majority of palates in this college town would deal well with that. Our meals were okay, not exceptional, but definitely acceptable. I was able to tailor my order to my personal food preferences which most other restaurants in the category are unwilling to do.

“Mexican-- are you kidding?”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2013

Lived in the southwest most of my life. This is not authentic Mexican. Enchiladas were horrid. I'll continue to make my own Mexican food until State College finally gets a Mexican restaurant that serves something edible.

“Authentic food and good service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 10, 2013

This is not an especially fancy restaurant, located in a strip mall on North Atherton. But the food is good and authentic, and service is attentive. When we were there we were told they had Margaritas (both kinds) on for $1.99 all day long--which sure is nice on a hot day. Definitely worth a visit.
