“Nice decor, wonderful presentation, ok food..”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

I had driven past this place a few times and had wondered what it was when finally a week ago I had the chance to eat there with some friends. I liked the decoration/vibe of the place. It was a Sunday afternoon lunch, so the place was empty, but I liked the decor and atmosphere in general. The service was slow, but we were not in a hurry, so that was ok, however the presentation of the food and also the desserts were wonderful! You can tell they took their time with preparing each item and it showed. A friend of mine ordered the lobster salad which arrived in a giant martini glass and then was transferred to a plate in front of us, that was cool! The food is ok, at least what I ordered was nothing spectacular, I had a caesar salad with grilled chicken, however by the time they brought out my chicken, my salad was nearly over. Overall, an ok place with a cool atmosphere. Location is a bit odd, but that's not their fault.

“Great New Option in State College”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 22, 2012

Had another great experience dining at the bar at Gigi. The atmosphere is excellent. The upscale granite bar area is lovely. There are lounge areas as well. No worries for the football fans. There are plenty of tv's in the bar, so you can enjoy a martini and raw oysters while watching the game. Lauren was wonderful and attentive. The Kobe beef sliders are delicious and do not miss the sticky bun bread pudding. Nice selection of wines by the glass.

It was highly entertaining watching the slacker bar back stand around watching the bartenders do all the work with his mouth full of food, standing in front of patrons watching the tv himself and blocking the view of others. We could only conclude that he must be related to one of the owners!

We are looking forward to our next visit to Gigi. There is a terrific outdoor area as well with a fire pit. Reasonable prices too for the small plates and large portions! A welcome addition to State College!

“New restaurant in the area”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2012

Stopped in on a recent visit to State College. Used to be a Rib restaurant; now more upscale atmosphere. Dinner entree's are a little pricey as were the appetizers, so, we went with the sandwich offerings. Tried the French Dip which was just OK; supposed to be prime rib but hard to tell the way it was cooked. Others tried a crab melt which was said to be pretty good. Drink menu offered the more trendy martini drinks; a french martini was said to be good, but, my Tanquerey and tonic came up short, especially for the price. I'm sure some may like Gigi's, but, in a college town it seemed a little out of place.

Great place to have a drink and dinner after PSU football game. The oysters on half shell were fantastic with mango salsa and caviar. The fish tacos are awesome. And service was great

“Mediocre”

Steak house? Without porterhouse on the menu? Are you kidding? Lunch was mediocre. Decor is just plain bad.
