First, let me say that I love Cracker Barrel. A road trip is not complete without a stop at one. I've waited a long time for State College to get a Cracker Barrel, and we have eaten here four to five times since it opened. Sadly the place is hit or miss. Since it is a chain restaurant you can count on the food matching what you will experience from Cracker Barrel to Cracker Barrel, but it is the service & rockiness of the kitchen staff that holds this establishment up. During one meal, the kitchen made a country fried chicken instead of steak. Wasn't a big deal, so they started making me another. The manager was prompt & apologetic, giving me the incorrect meal to eat, and a completely new "correct" meal. Plus he threw on a round of ice cream sundaes for the kids. Nicely done! During our next meal here, my wife (a vegetarian) ordered a BLT without the B (bacon). When she bit into & then inspected her sandwich, it was clear that the bacon had been on the sandwich prior to arriving at the table (pieces of bacon still attached to the lettuce/tomato). When she brought it to the attention of the waitress, she did not seemed surprised. Guess is that the kitchen messed it up and then told her not to worry, they would just peel it off & no one would ever know. Later the manager came out with the sandwich, and said that this was not how they normally did things, but would follow up. He comped the price of the sandwich, but two screw ups in a row & we may wait until an actual road trip out of State College to eat at our next Cracker Barrel.
