“You Get What You Pay For...”

Howard Johnson Philadelphia International Airport Springfield

Well, c'mon -- it's a HoJo, on a busy highway in a strip-mall area, where a room cost $89/night. If you're expecting the Ritz-Carlton, that's not a reasonable expectation...

We chose this place because Swarthmore College's admission office said it was the closest hotel. We stayed here for one night during a two-night stay, and it was pretty much what we expected.

It seemed mostly clean, although I'll admit I didn't want to look too hard. The wi-fi worked fine in our room, although the desk clerk told us when we checked in that the property's router was problematic and iffy.

Were the linens scratchy and coarse? Were the towels thin? Yes, for the most part that's all true -- but this hotel (sorry, motel) is what it is, and doesn't pretend to be anything else. Since we had no experience bad enough to complain to management, I can't speak to the indifference/helpfulness, but I'd have to say that all in all, it's pretty much what we expected for $89.

“Dirty Sheets!”

As part of a wedding, we checked in to our room, and had time only to put our suitcase in the room, brush our teeth and leave. When we returned late that night (1:00am), we got ready for bed-- and stopped there. When we turned down the sheets, we saw dirt and what looked like marks that someone's dirty feet made at the bottom of the sheets! I don't blame the yucky-footed guest before us, but I do blame the hotel for giving us a room where the sheets hadn't been changed. On closer inspection, we found 2 used tissues on the floor that had been covered up by the bedspread. We were exhausted, and called the front desk to get a change of sheets. The desk worker had no access to any housekeeping supplies, and after some time agreed to let us change rooms. The sheets were clean, but the bathroom floor had hairs and a dead fly. Ick. My husband and I slept with as many clothes on as possible and never took off our socks. We were totally grossed out.

When we checked out the next morning, the manager was "unavailable," as he has been the 4 times since that I have called back.

If you stay here, beware. Another member of the wedding party had her valuable engagement ring stolen!

First to address the housekeeping issues we have for the most part all new staff most importantly a new head housekeeper. Our hotel saw the need for change and took action, and has gotten rid of anyone who was unable to work up to par. That includes all of the issues this guest references regarding housekeeping. We strive everyday to do our best for all of our guests, and complaints as well as compliments let us know what we are doing right, and what we need to change. While this review is a perfect example of that I must mention that the statement regarding someones ring being stolen is not fair. It is a shame that the possibilty of someone misplacing it or losing it somewhere else is never mentioned. It should not be automatic if you leave something in a hotel to assume that the housekeeper has stolen it, and no one ever comments back on these postings when they end up finding what was "stolen" from them.

“Worst hotel that I have ever experienced”

This was the worst room that I have ever stayed in, especially given the price.
We ordered a non-smoking room and there was an aroma of smoke permeating in the room.
The bathroom had pubic heair and feces on the side of toilet.
The bathroom tole looked like it hadn't been mopped in days. There was coffee stains on the floor separator.
We stayed there for two nights and the maid left garbage in front of the door while she was cleaning other rooms. She falied to give us towels.
I would suggest better training for the maids and ensure that proper supervision of evaluating the room once it has been cleaned should ensue. I would also suggest that the hotel chain become more environmentally consious about recycling, reuse of towels/sheets and cups, to prevent wastefulness.

We have addressed all of these issues and have nearly a whole new staff in housekeeping including a new head housekeeper. We expect all of guests to have a comfortable and clean room, and we now do a welcome call approx. 15 mins after check in to ensure that you have had a chance to check your room and make sure it is as you and we expect it to be this includes your smoking preference.

This is a no frills hotel, from the looks of things surviving only on stranded airline passengers with vouchers. If you are looking just for a place to sleep, save $40 and take a room in the local hotel across the street.

If you ignore my advice, don't bother complaining to the front desk. I've been sitting in the lobby because the advertised in-room internet doesn't work. I've never seen any hotel staff so completely unconnected to customer satisfaction.

Our hotel does work with the airport in providing rooms for guests who are dealing with a cancelled flights or not being able to get out of the airport. I do not see how housing people whom are stranded at the aiport would be regarded as a negative thing, but we proudly take care of all of our guests no matter if they book in advance or it is last minute check in due to airport services. As far as survival of our hotel based on that, its a little off base, as we are thriving on a lot of return guests & new faces as well.

Regarding our interenet service, as with all technolgies we are at the mercy of it ocassionally not working in some areas due to weather or a router issue, but generally any issues are quickly corrected by a brief phone call to our service provider.

In response to saving money and staying accross the street I would support any guest in comparing rooms, as it is the nature of this business to have competition, I am confident you would return. A lot of good change has happened since this comment was posted.

First, be aware this motel is not in the neighborhood of the airport, nor even with the other motels clustered west of the airport.

Second, I had hoped - despite other reviews here -- that I would find a reasonable situation here because it was the most convenient motel to my suburban destination. Although the desk personnel were helpful and friendly, the condition of the room wasn't great. Linens were clean but stains on bathroom door were alarming (and easily removed with a wet tissue, so why hadn't they been?); bathtub floor remained grimy even after two days with maid service; scraps on floor indicated no vacuuming and no floor cleaning on either day; a wet washcloth hanging on the shower bar was left behind. One towel smelled perfumed and 3 others smelled of bleach raising serious questions about laundry practices. Curtains barely cover the windows so light leaked fully in and a determined peeper might have success.

The internet connectivity cut out chronically despite a strong signal, so online work was almost impossible.

Otherwise, if you make a point of asking to be given a room away from the highway (probably on the inside of the U-shaped building) and unless you have trouble with stairs, if you ask for a second floor room, this is a reasonable place for a very reasonable price. And if you have business in the Swarthmore--Media--Springfield area, this is very convenient. Close to several strip malls with an array of decent chain restaurants.

We are considered an airport hotel, but we are 8 miles distance from there. We provide a complementary shuttle service and it generally takes about 20 minutes to get here. Some people will see this as a detriment but the pro side of being further away is that we don't have any of the noise from the airlines, or the interstate traffic. We are located on Baltimore Pike which is a main road, but if you feel noise from it will be an issue all you need to do is request a room away from the street and we are happy to oblige. Regarding housekeeping issues, we have new head housekeeper who has gotten things under control, and personally inspects every room to ensure its cleanliness.
