“1st Timer- fun but be prepared for extras”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2014

We just came back from our first time at GWL. It was super fun and very clean. We read all the reviews ahead of time and took it all to heart. We knew that besides the water park and room, everything else was extra $$. I mean EVERYTHING. We found that by pre-packing breakfast in our room, and going off site for dinner and lunch saved us tons of money.
We have 2 boys and definitely wanted to look into Magiquest. That was super exciting to do with my sons. We were confused at first, but everyone on floors 3-4 were all in it together so we all helped each other.
That was the only extra $$ we paid for. We spent most of our time at the water park.
But I can see how this trip COULD be super expensive if you let it be.
We may or may not come back again, probably with a discounted room rate. But again it was super fun for the kids.

Room Tip: Bring Snacks to the room and save money by going off-site for lunch or dinner.

This is a vast property with easy to access right off Rt. 80. The rooms are large
and the ceilings seem to have sound dampening material in them as we were on the ground
floor with children above us and, while they were running back and forth, we faintly
heard them. The bed was thick and comfortable and the TV was flatscreen with the standard
drip coffee maker.

As we explored the property we were impressed with the variety of activities available.
There was bowling, game rooms, teddy bear building and plenty of gift shops, you can
really get in trouble with your credit card here. Best advice is to blindfold your kids
from the room to the waterpark.
First things first, we ate at the restaurant located in the main lobby. They carry a full
menu along with a local brew, which is quite good.

The waterpark is huge with full facilities within its' space including a gift shop, snack
bar and full service bar, which is conveniently located right near the lazy river. Plenty
of pools for the kids, including a wave pool and slides with slight inclines geared
toward the 10 and under crowd. A couple of 2 story playhouses with water jets connected
by a bridge that seems to be a big hit.

The main attractions are the largers slides, 6 of them if I counted right. A couple of
them operate at 3 to 4 stories high with extreme drops. They travel from inside the park
to the outside and back in again, a couple more finish up in the lazy river. Very well
run operation and they keep the line moving. Just like the cruise ship, no need for money
you just let them scan your wristband you're given when you book the room.

The best part about this place is in order to access the park you need to book a room, no
day visitors which keeps out the trouble makers and the riff-raff. I would have given the
place 5 stars except we had 2 things wrong in our room, hair dryer came out of the wall
and the bracket holding the shower head broke and, desite putting in a complaint with the
front desk, 2 days later it wasn't fixed. Other than that the place is a perfect getaway
that your kids won't forget anytime soon.

Room Tip: Book the rooms in the rear of the facility which gives you a view of trees and mountains instead of...

We had been reading reviews for months about GWL and am happy to report that virtually none of the issues others had experienced were things we ran into.

Positives:
* Our room was ready prior to 1PM. It was clean, on an upper floor as requested and away from the hustle and bustle of the waterpark area, also as requested. Size of room was nice.
* The waterpark itself lived up to all expectations (rides, lines, lifeguards). Seating was not an issue. Lifeguards were consistently friendly and attentive.
* The Magi Quest game is a wonderful idea! Keeps the kids (and some parents) moving and interested throughout the stay.
* A number of free activities: Bingo, Dancing, Storytime, Clock Tower Show
* Arcade and glow-golf were fun
* Buffett (breakfast/dinner) were good for the price - had wide variety of items - carving/pasta/omelet stations
* Both times we called housekeeping they were there within minutes and very nice :)

Areas for Improvement:
* Showerhead could have been updated (not that strong on any setting)
* TVs - kids area one was hard to see if on bottom bunk and Master Bed area was too low (may put on the wall?
* Lack of hooks to hang our wet clothes on - we saw many areas where they could be easily installed or even a retractable clothesline in the shower would help
* Lastly - for the love of God do not use a Debit card for the wristbands - you have to tell them how much you want on EACH band (so when I went to pay for something I had nothing on it since my husband had made the arrangements) - use a credit card instead

Just keep in mind when you go - this is not the Four Seasons (although up there in price I will grant you) - it's an indoor waterpark mostly geared for younger people - it lived up to our expectations and we would like to come back sometime.

Room Tip: Ask for an upper floor away from waterpark to minimize noise. Ask for late checkout (2pm) the extra...

My family and I were not disappointed. The rooms were clean and ready at check in. We arrived 2 hours early and there was no problem. There is no nice way of saying this.. it has to be expensive to keep it nice. I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" and this place is worth every penny. There were plenty of activities for the children. They have a breakfast and dinner buffet. The food is ok . There are other smaller places to get a bite to eat. The water park is clean, warm and well supervised. There a plenty of staffers available so there are no long waiting lines. For the price of this suite I was prepared to complain about the slightest imperfection. I had no reason to complain. I will return to the Lodge instead of Disney this year it is closer and safer. Don't try to break the bank ..go midweek and stay a few days...it is worth it.

Room Tip: hallways are kind od chilly get a sweater handy

After reading many of the reviews and being warned about the food I went with lowered expectations but was plesantly surprised in many ways. I did the online check-in and when we arrived at the lodge at noon were shocked to find our room was ready, check-in took less than five minutes. I have seen reviews that the lodge and room are getting old and showing signs of wear and tear. The lobby looked clean and good shape to me but I did not stick around to watch any of the shows. They seemed to have activity for the younger kids such as bingo, dance party, story time and the kids would gather around in their pj's.

Our room was also clean and one minor issue in that we felt the heater/cooling unit was extermely loud when it would turn on, to the point it woke us up- I just turned it off and the temperature was comfortable enough through the night. The water park area looked in good shape to me and the water and seating areas appeared to be clean. There are plenty of lifeguards and staff on hand to assist and all were pleasant and attentive. I did think the locker room area could have used some attention as by the end of the day wet towels were strewn about but otherwise that is the only minor thing that could have used a little more TLC.

The front desk staff and other staff we came across were always courteous and friendly. We brought many of our own snacks to defray the cost and it helped. We did order some food from the snack area within the water park and it was fine ( standard bugers, chicken fingers, and fries). We opted to order out for dinner from a local pizza place and delivery was prompt and with tip it was $15. We did try the breakfast buffet and it was adequate, the kids liked it and it had basic breakfast options (omlette station, pancakes, hash browns, bacon, sausage, fruit, waffles, cereal). Overall I had a better time than expected but most importantly the kids had a blast. In the evenings from 7pm - 10:30pm things are hectic in the lobby and the kids running around doing the magic quest thing with their wands so be forewarned but after 11pm found the hallways to be relatively quiet. I would recommend a room on the 4th floor so you don't have anyone above you. It was a great experience and one night was plenty for our family. I would definitely come back again and it was a postive experience.

Room Tip: ask for a fourth floor room. That is the top floor and you won't have anyone above you.

Let me start out by saying that my 4 children 9 years old and younger love it. As the parent that paid a ridiculous amount of money for the most expensive room they had I have to give the place a very poor rating. I checked in on a Wednesday or at least attempted to. People were able to start checking in at 1 PM. 4 PM and we are told our room still isn't available. I am going to try and post pictures of
how empty the lobby is. If you have one or two people waiting for rooms, wouldn't you use all available resources to get those two rooms freed up? The front desk staff are emotionless and really don't care about helping
the customer. Midweek with the resort empty we were hoping for easy check in and no lines. There were no lines but with
four young children you hope to be able to check in immediately. Second time here after a
mediocre experience the first time. Thought we would give it one more try. We will not make the mistake a third time. The waterpark and the rooms are not that clean. The food at the buffet reminds you of something you would get at the country buffet. It's like spending over
$500 for staying at the Best Western.

Thank you for staying at Great Wolf Lodge – Poconos for a second time! We sincerely apologize for the service you received, however in the confirmation e-mails that are sent out prior to your arrival, it does state check-in begins at 4pm or as the room becomes available from cleaning. Our Housekeeping team work tirelessly to get all rooms turned around in time for guests who are arriving that day.

I would recommend visiting during a slower part of the year, such as May or September when occupancy from the previous night might not be as high.

Thank you for choosing Great Wolf.

Great Wolf is a lot of fun. Our visit in 2012 was great. Rooms were in great condition & clean. The water park was as well. Unfortunately this visit was some what disappointing. The Lodge was much cleaner our last visit. The furniture in our room was really beat. I thought the coffee table was going to fall apart. Our bathroom was missing linens as well. Our other issue was BLACK mold inside the tube at the waterpark. Also the Magiquest was not working well. We had to keep doing quests because it was not registering on the wands. For the price, everything should be perfect. I completed my survey but have yet to hear from them.
