“Old McDonald's Farm”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013 via mobile

Farmlike setting but not to our liking. Owner helpful but didn't make up for not getting much sleep with dogs barking, train going by and roosters crowing early AM. Good location close by Amish market but would spend a few more dollars and try another campground.

Flory's is a great little campground just off the main drag in Ronks, PA, Lancaster, Co. Not too big, with lots of nice trees. It backs up to an Amish farm, so you feel like you're in the country. This isn't a resort campground- there is no pool or hottub, just some small cottages and campsites. The price was reasonable, and there was free wi-fi. The only down side was that the password for the internet is only good for 12 hrs, and you only have 12 hours to use it once you sign on. So, you have to get a new password each day. Just a minor inconvenience. The owners were very nice and very helpful when asked for information, directions, etc. There is a decent area to walk the dogs and the bathrooms were spotless. We would definetly go back if ever in that area again.

This is the perfect campground if you want to feel at home. The owners are very helpful and accomodating. This is the perfect place if you have pets. The campground is surrounded by farmlands. It is such a relaxing place. Bathhouses are so clean you could sleep on the floor! We can't wait to go back

If you are looking for a quiet night's sleep, this is the campground in Lancaster county. Staff are very friendly and helpful. When we go to a campground, we like to stay where it is quiet. If you are looking for activities, games, swimming pool and these sort of things, this campgound is not for you. There are several Amish farms that are within walking distance. They sell produce in season, homemade candy and desserts. Amish farm beside campgound where you can see their animals and also farmers working in fields. Very relaxing campground. Not much for kids to do other than ride their bikes and they also have a sliding board and swing set. We have stayed here many, many times and will continue to do so.

This is such a quaint and quiet campground. I love staying here. It feels like your are staying on a farm. We stayed back near the fence and hope to get a site along the fence this year.

I have rented cottages from Flory's numerous times. Besides cottages they have guest rooms on the 2nd floor of the owner’s home. Flory's also has a camp ground but that is in the back of the property.

There are 5 really nice guest homes where the whole house is yours. There are 1, 2 and 3 bedroom guest homes on site. The 3 BR guest homes are newer and are behind the guest houses that face or are on Ronks Rd. The most popular guest homes at Flory's are the 1 and 2 bedroom guest rooms because they are right on Ronks Rd. In case you are not familiar with Ronks Rd. The Amish specifically use this road to get around. They pass Flory's all day and night. At night you will hear the clip clop of the horses as you lay in bed. So, since most people go to the PA Dutch County to see the Amish, why not let the Amish come to you. In fact there is an Amish business right across the street.

With the 1 and 2 BR guest rooms facing Ronks Rd you can sit outside on the front porch with a glass of wine or coffee and shoofly pie and watch the Amish pass until you have had enough without using your car to drive around looking for them. You will take hundreds of pictures and make great videos that you probably would not have been able to do driving around. Or just relax on your deck in the back of the unit where it is quiet. The guest homes that face Ronks Rd have their own driveways. All the homes have a living room with cable TV, bed rooms with cable TV, fully equipped kitchen, large refrigerator, kitchen table, stove, microwave, dishes, silverware, utensils, coffee maker, detergent, air conditioning and heat. No pets and smoke free. They are basically just small homes. So if you want to save money you can cook. But if you don’t want to cook its still very convenient having access to a full kitchen.

Flory’s does not have daily room service (great if you want to just sleep late). You bring your dirty towels and rags to the office and they give you clean ones. There is an onsite laundry and game room. Behind the cottages is the campground which you can freely walk around. Flory’s has Amish neighbors on two sides of the property. The cows and horses come right up to the fence.

There is Wi-Fi (wireless Internet) for a daily fee. On some Saturdays an Amish lady may come knocking on your door to sell baked goods. The homes would pass AAA standards with 2 stars or more. The premises do not have a pool but it’s big enough to have a nice walk day or night and to allow the kiddies to run free.

Some things you may not like-
The volume of traffic is heavy and the cars drive by fast. Yes the Amish pass in abundance but so do the cars.

Rates for a cottage-
We would stay here every year if the rates were lower. Yes I understand you are getting a whole house but it’s still very steep. 2008 Prime Time rates from July through Oct were as follows: 1 Bedroom $149, 2 Bedroom $189, 3 Bedroom $249 a night before taxes.

Check In Time- (They get you here), After 4 pm
Check Out Time- (They get you again), Before 10 am.
So if you stay 1 night, you are paying for about 18 hours where if you stay at the traditional motels where check in is around 2 pm and check out is around 11 am, you are paying for approximately 22 hours.

Rates in the off season are less but still expensive.

  • Liked — Having a house (cottage) to yourself and viewing the Amish as the pass the cottages.
  • Disliked — Price and amount of cars that pass the cottages.
