“Hidden gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

We've stayed at the Spring Hill Suites 3 time since they opened a year ago. About 4 miles from Philly Airport. Spring Hill Suites is off of exit 8 on 95 and Philly Airport is exit 12 B. Free airport shuttle, hotel parking, breakfast, and wi-fi. What else do you need? They offer fly and go packages when flying from Philly. Room includes a microwave, fridge, coffee maker... Everything you need for business or pleasure. My friends weren't crazy about the room's layout but I didn't find any problems with it. Great staff. Small bar but at least they have one!

Room Tip: Good option when flying in and out of Philly

Stayed one night when we were in Philly to attend the NCAA basketball tournament about 15 minutes away. Used a free Marriott rewards certificate and it was a perfect stay. The front desk folks were great and let us check in early. The room was functional and well designed. Excellent TV options and the wireless Internet was excellent. The Sat morning breakfast was good and included many options. The public space was clean and well designed. Also, large parking lot and easy to find off the highway. Altogether, a perfect stay for a quick overnight trip to Philly.

NYC Family T,

Thank you for your positive feedback, it is greatly appreciated! As you mentioned, we offer an abundance of amenities at our property, however, what brings the most satisfaction is providing our guests with an enjoyable & memorable stay. Our guest rooms were designed with you in mind, they are stylish & chic, yet they don't lose that sense of comfort. With the added coffee maker, microwave, & mini fridge in your room, you have everything that you need in one immediate area! As for our breakfast, once again we wanted it to be unique, without simply offering our guests continental items, but instead a variety that they aren't used to seeing elsewhere. We take pride in what we stand for & what we have to offer, it is a pleasure to know that you could feel the warm hospitality.

Well, it was different. To be fair, I'm not a fan of the "IKEA-Euro style" meets "Early George Jetson," (in fact, I downright hate IKEA and the Euro style) so that does color my view of the decor and functionality of the room. While there were some parts that were great, it was the "little touches" in trying to make it ultra-modern that didn't really work for me or my husband.

The desk with divider wall was great, and a wonderful idea, except that the "wall" was frosted glass, so if one person was trying to sleep, the light over the desk shone right through, where a solid wood wall would have prevented that. The same for the bathroom - which was really two separate rooms - one with the toilet (with a very narrow seat) and the other with the shower. Again, too European for my taste, and with the frosted glass on the shower, given that my husband and I were operating on two different schedules, very difficult for one to sleep the the other to shower with the light spilling through the frosted glass door into the bedroom. If you're a lone business traveler, this might not be a problem, but it was for us.

Not a fan of the sliding doors on the toilet and shower rooms, as they make a lot of noise when they slide closed and bump into the wall. Again, a problem if two people in the room are on different schedules - even if you're just using the facilities in the middle of the night, it's a lot of noise. Bathroom could have used a towel rack instead of just a two-pronged towel hook, especially since we had the need to shower twice one day, and wanted the towels to dry a bit before reuse. Might look "cool and funky and modern" but not very practical in practice. Bed was comfortable and we liked the selection of pillows offered.

We did like the wooden bars over the heater, which made for a convenient luggage rack, since we didn't use the wardrobe. Call us paranoid, but we never use conventional hotel dressers to store our clothes either. The place was exceptionally clean - which is rare for a hotel and a huge bonus. Every staff member we encountered was beyond polite, friendly, and courteous. The front desk even gave us extra "do not disturb" door signs after ours were stolen - twice. That was a big plus for them, because we had one really big problem with the hotel - the noise.

Yeah, the noise, which, to be fair, the hotel staff did their best to correct. At least one, and possibly more, junior hockey teams, as well as a noisy wedding party, were staying in the hotel and the kids ran the halls (literally) at all hours of the night, so that it sounded like a herd of cattle was thundering overhead. This was two nights in a row (Friday and Saturday) and each time we called the front desk, they responded promptly, and the noise would quiet. However the chaperones lost control of their kids after a brief time and within a few minutes, the running would begin again, this time as the kids moved from floor to floor, presumably to disturb as many people as possible. Since our room was by the stairwell, the group would charge through the stairwell door, slam it closed, and keep right on running. Over and over and over again. Again, not the fault of the hotel or staff, who did their best to stop the problem, and they did eventually, though I'm not sure how. However, if you're there for a quiet business stay, just be aware that youth sports teams do use the hotel and not all are courteous. The thermostat fan was also super quiet, probably with the idea of a "quiet night's sleep," so we couldn't even turn up the fan high enough, or loud enough, to drown out the noise. If you're a light sleeper, beware and bring your own white noise machine!

The kids also swarmed the buffet and hotel lobby every morning like a plague of locusts, eating everything that wasn't nailed down, and often grabbing food that other guests were either reaching for or already had a hand on. To the hotel's credit, they did constantly restock the breakfast buffet, often offering other guests a few pre-packaged things (like yogurt) first before the kids ate it all again. In short, the hotel did try to curtail the problems we encountered with the sports team, and did their best - for which I give them a lot of credit. It just simply wasn't an enjoyable stay for us, but without the constant noise at night and the kids literally everywhere we turned, including playing in the elevators, it probably would have been.

Franciefan73,

Your feedback is greatly appreciated, your input is necessary for the positive advancement of the hotel. The information that you provide informs us not only of what we are doing right, but areas that require improvement as well. It is our responsibility to ensure that each guest's stay is even better than their last, that being said I am in high hopes that this does not deter you from staying with us again in the future. While our modern "Euro style" may not be your particular preference, I am sure that a comfortable clean room & hospitable staff is! Your comments concerns & suggestions are all being taken very seriously as we are aware that other guests such as yourself may have encountered the same issues. Once again, thank you for your feedback, should you need anything further please feel free to contact me.

We booked our 7 night stay at this hotel directly through Marriott's reservation number and we were able to obtain a better rate than through any of the booking sites, which didn't offer the "extended stay" rate. The hotel is considered an airport hotel, with a shuttle bus to PHL, but we we stayed there to be close to family in Ridley Park. The hotel was a great "home away from home" for the week. Good, if typical, included breakfast in lobby. Nice hotel bar for the evenings, but no restaurant service. The bed was heavenly, the room was quiet and dark, and the bathroom facilities and toiletries are top-notch. Great shower. Also enjoyed the fridge, microwave, sofa, and in-room coffee maker. We took advantage of the indoor pool and small gym--they were much appreciated. We have stayed in several chain hotels near the PHL airport, and this is the one to which we'll return.

Room Tip: We asked for a "quiet room" and that's what we got. We weren't even on the top flo...

Jackie C,

We are so honored that you considered us to be your "home away from home" during your stay. It's not often that we have leisure guests such as yourself with us for such an extended period of time, but when we do, we want them to take full advantage of what we have to offer. It appears that you had no problem in doing so! From the upstanding comfort that we provide in each guest room, with the: coffee maker, mini fridge, & microwave, down to the large variety at breakfast, 24 hour fitness center, & indoor pool, you were able to enjoy each amenity to the fullest. There is nothing that we enjoy more than a satisfied guest, especially those who provide such great praise. We look forward to seeing you in the future! I was challenged to find a decent hotel for business travel in the Ridley Park/Upland, PA area. Fortunately, I came across this gem! It is bright, super-modern and has a funky Scandinavian flair that is a refreshing change from the business hotel norm. The bar is a must-visit!

The rooms are, according to my colleague are "IKEA-ish" with their minimalist style. The toilet is in its own space and so is is the tub/shower. For any bashful business colleagues sharing a room, note that neither the toilet room nor shower room have lockable doors. In fact, spacing in the sliding doors to these areas takes away the sense of privacy since you can see into the closed off areas.

If I had one complaint, it would be that the beds are too soft. However, that's a personal choice so I won't hold it against the property. A well placed pillow under my back allowed me to have a comfortable sleep.

That said, this will be my hotel of choice whenever I am in the Ridley/Upland area.

Tbird209,

Thank you for your positive feedback, it is much appreciated! You made mention of our modern flare in your post, & that is precisely one of the things that make us stand out among other hotels in the area. Our "funky" (as you put it) style begins as soon as you walk into our lobby area, from our stylish lounge, to our grand variety at breakfast; we want you to have an experience like none other. However, while our chic style & unique touches are the first thing that you see, our warm & hospitable staff is truly what will keep you coming back. We want each of our guests to have an enjoyable experience just as you did! We anxiously await your future stays, until then, should you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me via the information below.

We stayed here with a group of 15 people prior to a trip to New Orleans. We were beyond satisfied with this hotel. I have stayed at several hotels which provide a Park and Fly package when traveling out of the PHL airport. I have to say that this hotel far surpasses any in all categories. The price was comparable. The rooms sleep up to 6 people. They are decent to large sized suites. The beds are comfortable. There is a nice lounge area with bar. There are not many restaurants in this area, however, there are a few pizza/sub places that deliver decent affordable food. The complimentary lobby breakfast is above average comparatively. The MOST important to us was the promptness and professionalism of the shuttle service. The shuttle was sent quickly and promptly and came right back to pick up our second group. I personally would choose to stay here for any future travel which involves flights from PHL. This hotel is clean, new, great service and does not in my opinion compare to the others that I have stayed at in the past.

I remember this group! I hope that you all had a wonderful trip!! Thank you for your positive feedback regarding our: spacious suites, prompt shuttle, and breakfast. We strive to provide our guests with a wonderful stay, & to know that we were able to do so with a group of 15 is extraordinary. Our spacious suites provide comfort, & the additional microwave and minifridge enhance that comfort level, the unique modern touches such as the split bathroom/water closet are extremely beneficial especially if you're sharing a room with a few others. Our complimentary breakfast the next morning has a large variety so that each of our guests have something to choose from, we offer a bit more than most. Lastly, our shuttle is sure to provide prompt service with a smile; & while we don't like to brag, we've got some of the friendliest staff around! So please, the next time that you're in town, be sure to stay with us!! We'll be waiting for you.
