“Average for The Price”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed September 25, 2012

A 48 km run has brought my husband & I to Punxsutawney, home of Groundhog Day and Punxsutawney Phil. My husband is running 29 000 km around the world & last night we stayed here. The guy at reception kindly phoned the local newspaper to let them know my husband was in town. I made the reservation the night before as there really wasn't much accommodation around, which is very surprising for such a touristed location. There are a couple of B & B's in Punxsutawney but they were out of our budget. The room was very basic, but for the price you can't expect much. Unfortunately, it smelt of stale cigarettes and for supposedly a non-smoking room this was disappointing & sadly cigarette holes adorned the bedspreads. The mattresses had plastic on them which is never really pleasant. There's a small fridge and old style tv and there was plenty of hot water in the shower. It was handy having a restaurant within the hotel; the service there was good. The motel mainly services workman who unfortunately start their diesel cars & trucks up at all hours of the morning and just leave them running for what seems like hours. Not sure why they feel the need to do that! The ceiling seemed to be paper-thin; you could hear people walking above you, causing the floor creak & groan. In saying all this we still both managed to sleep well with our silicon earplugs!!! It's onto another hotel this evening…..700 hotel rooms in 700 days!!!

Room Tip: Place was fine just for one night. Walmart across the road which is handy. Right on the main road...

“Do NOT stay here”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 25, 2012

These people don't care about customer service. I contacted them through the "Contact Us" on their website. After hearing nothing from them I sent another email. This is the response I got: "We don't spend all day on the computer like you do. We only check our account once or twice a week.
If you still want a room call xxx-xxx-xxxx. But we would rather you didn't stay here." WOW!!!! I will NEVER stay here! Don't try to communicate with them via email! They sure won't respond to you in a positive manner! They should remove the "Contact Us" from their website!

“Was clean but sooooo old it seemed dirty”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed September 12, 2011

My title says it all. The room was clean but everything was sooooo old and outdated that it just seemed dirty. There were some stains on the chairs, but that can happen at any motel or hotel. There was no closet, just a rack to hang the clothes.

Ladies if you need a hair dryer you better bring your own as they do not supply one. They supply wash cloths, towels and 2 bars of soap and 2 plastic cups to drink out of.

They did have a refrigerator. Probably the worse thing was our picture window vibrated all night long-not just when cars went by..all night long. I moved the lamp where its shade touched the curtains and that helped. However during the night it started being louder again and I had to get up and push the lampshade over to touch the curtains again so the vibration noise would lessen. The bed and pillows were good and comfortable.

They have a restaurant which doesn't look like much....but the breakfasts smelled excellent when I walked by the restaurant in the morning.

There is a Super Walmart and a Dollar Tree right across the street.

“OK stay for the night - convenient location”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 18, 2011

Convenient that the motel is located on the main road into Punxsutawney, and Walmart is across the road.

The room was fine except 2 points:
1. Very dark - the lighting was minimal and in the corners of the room - I actually found it hard to see at night.
2. Smell of cigarette smoke was annoying considering it was meant to be a non-smoking room.

I think that it was OK for a night's stay and despite being on a main road, it was set back from the road and was quiet, I slept well.

“Run by a slum lord”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 11, 2011

When we arrived at the motel it was after 10 p.m. and we found the sheets soiled and the offices closed. We ended up going across the street to Wal-mart and buying sheets because there wasn't an afterhours number posted in the room. When the sheets were removed we found bugs on the bed. The toilet was loose from the floor and we found someone's inhaler on the floor. I told the owner about the problems in the room and his response was "What do you want me to do about it?" Someone with that arrogance in that business and that doesn't know what to do about customer satisfaction should be shoveling groundhog dung and not in the motel business. Rooms are dirty, musty, and no maintenance to speak of. Pitch a tent before staying here!
