A 48 km run has brought my husband & I to Punxsutawney, home of Groundhog Day and Punxsutawney Phil. My husband is running 29 000 km around the world & last night we stayed here. The guy at reception kindly phoned the local newspaper to let them know my husband was in town. I made the reservation the night before as there really wasn't much accommodation around, which is very surprising for such a touristed location. There are a couple of B & B's in Punxsutawney but they were out of our budget. The room was very basic, but for the price you can't expect much. Unfortunately, it smelt of stale cigarettes and for supposedly a non-smoking room this was disappointing & sadly cigarette holes adorned the bedspreads. The mattresses had plastic on them which is never really pleasant. There's a small fridge and old style tv and there was plenty of hot water in the shower. It was handy having a restaurant within the hotel; the service there was good. The motel mainly services workman who unfortunately start their diesel cars & trucks up at all hours of the morning and just leave them running for what seems like hours. Not sure why they feel the need to do that! The ceiling seemed to be paper-thin; you could hear people walking above you, causing the floor creak & groan. In saying all this we still both managed to sleep well with our silicon earplugs!!! It's onto another hotel this evening…..700 hotel rooms in 700 days!!!
