“Great Italian place!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2013 via mobile

A little out in the middle of nowhere, but worth finding. Huge portions, great taste!!! This is an up scale pizza joint. With great dinner plates, sandwiches, and appetizers. I had a cheesesteak hoagie, it was huge and tasty. The girls had chicken cordon blue sandwiches, that's what we stop by this place for, every time we are in the area.

“REALLY BIG PORTIONS”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed November 20, 2012

Man, that's a lot of pasta! Okay ambiance - more of a pizza parlor than dining restaurant, so don't expect romance. Service was okay. Food was passable to good, but the PORTIONS WERE HUGE! (Which we all enjoyed). And the Garlic Rolls were fantastic.

“Room for improvement”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed August 29, 2012

my review of Giovannis on schuykill rd.

This Restaurant has the potential to be a very good one, but there are some real issues that they really should address in order for it to be a really great place to eat.

Whenever I order a salad, whether it is an antipasta or just a green salad with dressing, the cucumber slices always seem to be pre-cut (not really sure how far in advance) and therefore they are soft and kinda slimy, instead of crisp and fresh.

The green olives that are in the salads are cheap out of a jar type olives instead of large green robust fresh Italian-market type. They have that preserved jarred taste which is really terrible.

I always order balsamic vinaigrette dressing, but instead of using a fine balsamic vinegar, they are using some cheap starchy dressing and for the oil, there is no extra virgin olive oil being used, instead its some kind of cheap wesson oil or an equivalent.

The Pasta dishes are usually pretty good, unless you order chicken of some type, chicken and broccoli ravioli or chicken parm,,
Then the chicken always tastes very dry (even though they drown it in whatever sauce is being used) and the chicken is most likely processed and frozen. Why not just use fresh chicken breast? You can charge a little more, but believe me no one will complain if it tasted the way that it should.

As far as cheesesteaks, why dont you stop using cheap beef and use some good flank steak or some shaved rib-eye?
Again, no one will complain about paying a little more if you simply make a steak sandwich that is a class steak sandwich!

Sauces and many other things made here are pretty good, the pizzas are generally pretty good, so why cut so many vital corners and remain just average and kinda gross on many things??

Out of 5 stars, I give Giovannis Pizza 2
