Was on a business trip and booked into this place. I'm not one who expect extravangent features from a hotel, but I do have some basic expectations. The place must be clean, the furnishings should be reasonably new, the staff responsive and knowledgable, and above all I must feel safe.

Well, this place is "well worn". It looks like they are attempting to update their rooms, but are really having limited success. From the outside, it appears run down and once inside, your opinion won't change. The furniture in the lobby is dated and worn and the elevator in the main lobby is non-operational (and looking back at other posts, has been for quite some time). To working elevator showed the obvious "quick fixes" of a branding change (with duct tape over an old Holiday Inn logo). The initial room I was given, looked to be recently updated with a flatscreen TV, but the lockset on the door wasn't installed properly and I was able to demonstrate to some coworkers the ability to do the old "credit card unlock" trick -- and I'm no expert by any stretch of the imagination. I quickly requested a new room -- a process which seemed to annoy the front desk person. The new room had date furniture and an old TV but was reasonably clean. I few dust bunnies and some dead stink bugs leave me questioning however how closely they keep after things.

Breakfast was reasonable and included in the price.

Would I stay here again? No. If there were absolutely no other places to stay in the area and I need a spot for the night -- sure -- but that's about it.

Dear Lasagna329,

Thank you for your recent review. We have the same furniture in all the rooms so I am not sure how the furniture differed from one room to the next. Most of our rooms do have a flat screen television. If you are in the Pittsburgh area again we would be happy to have you as our guest.

Sincerely,

Our room was quite nice---no complaints.

I'm not sure what to make of this place otherwise. They must have over a hundred rooms along with a bar and numerous conference rooms. But there was hardly anyone there. It seemed a bit eerie to see an of empty parking spaces.

Some have commented that their GPS doesn't show this address. The problem is Pennsylvania's maze of counties, boroughs, townships, etc. Although this place is in Pittsburgh, it shows up in a GPS as being in Green Tree, PA.

Again, this place is a good value. The room and service were fine.

This was a horrible stay and we will not return. This hotel was understaffed, the main elevator was not working, the business center computer/printer was not working, and our floor’s ice machine was not working. Photos are attached. There appeared to some sort of suspicious late night transactions going on in the parking lot with people I do not believe were paying guests. We will avoid this hotel in the future.

The hotel was extremely difficult to find. Our Sygic GPS would not accept the address and led us to the opposite part of town in a residential area. If you can input co-ordinates into your GPS, - use these; N 40-25-13 W 80-3-21. Every hotel should have this info on the homepage!

The reception area was guarded by a «bulldog» of a receptionist. She knew her job perfectly, but that hospitality attitude was not there.

My wife is an “elite platinum” member in the Choice chain for what is it worth. That fact was not recognized by the lady. My wife is disabled and we have a disability permit for the car. The lift closest to the reception has been out of order for a while, at least since April 11th. when someone commented this “standstill” at Tripadvisor.

We were given a room on the 2nd. floor which meant that we had to walk the entire length of the building from the reception to the elevator for the second floor, and then walk the entire length of the building back again. There is no staircase connecting the lobby to the floors above. There was a fire escape staircase close to our room, but that leads directly outside. The staircase was extremely dirty and has an atmosphere of about 92 degrees. We could drive the car to another side entrance at the back to unload,. This was closer to the elevator in service, - but we still had to walk with heavy luggage through a long corridor. The lock to this side entrance was broken and anyone could enter at night. As the hotel has several signs at the outside “that the hotel is not responsible for thefts from cars”, I find this lack of security a bit appalling?

The room was small for all our luggage. We travel across the US for 7 weeks and we need a bit of «stuff».

The bath was larger than usual, but there was very little space to put your toiletries. The bar of soap frequently fell into the abyss of the washbasin. The warm water in the morning took some time to come. The owners should install a device to capture the excess heat in the fire escape staircase to preheat the water. It would probably pay for itself in just 12 months and make good economy.

The pool was off limits maybe due to contamination. A nice employee opened up the gate so we could take an evening meal by the pool.

The night was terrible. The racket from the AC unit was close to that of a sugar cane mill, a fact that kept you awake unless you have passed out from sedatives. We come from way up north, and are used to sleep in a freezing environment, so turning it off gave even less sleep. We gave up at 04:00 and watched TV and started to write this review.

In the morning we required another room and got it. We decided to leave anyhow, - as 3 out of 4 items in the fitness center were defect.

We managed after some attempts to make the Super Ramp work, but the display was dark as a solemn night. The fitness room also reeked from rubber. There was water in the water-cooler and there were plenty of towels. The TV was gone and the clock on the wall was 3 hours away from Pittsburgh time. As we choose our hotels from those that have a fitness center, such malfunctions are annoying. The lock to the fitness center was defect too. As both the lock to the nearby side entrance and the lock to the fitness center was out of order, any rapist could have easy access.

At home the fitness center is used 1 hours every morning and 1 hour every afternoon. It is a way of life, - and to stay alive as one of us has a condition that will put you in a wheelchair in a few months unless you work out.

The hotel was not new, but it looked nice. There seems to be some serious maintenance issues however. It could be a nicer place, but the owners will have to take action before it becomes a shelter for refugees from the 3rd world.

Dear phagerup,

Thank you for your recent review. The GPS you were using must not have been an updated version or you did not include the zipcode to arrive to our hotel. Pittsburgh is a big city and it can be confusing navigating through the city. I do apoligize you were not reconized as a Elite Member upon check in. I am not sure why you were given a 2nd floor room when we have plenty of handicap rooms on the first floor. We have never had any security issues at our location and almost all hotels across the US post the signs regarding theft because hotels can not be held responsible for theft. The pool will be open this week, we are waiting to have the ADA pool lift installed not due to contamination. We hope that if you return to Pittsburgh you will stay with us!

Sincerely,

Jennifer Yocum

my brother and i recently stayed here for a couple of nights while in town to see the pirates play. it's not a fancy place and is looking somewhat rundown in places (especially hallways and stair wells), but our room was clean, the beds were comfortable, and it was a very short drive to the ball park and downtown. if you're looking for a 5* hotel, you need to look elsewhere. if you're looking for somewhere affordable and decent this is a great spot. i'd definitely stay here again on a similar trip.

We chose this location as it was very convenient for traveling to our daughter's apartment. I called ahead to make sure it wasn't still under construction, which several reviewers had mentioned. We found the room to be somewhat redone and the bed was very comfortable and clean. However, the walls were marred and badly in need of painting, and the TV reception was awful. The lobby area carpeting was worn and in need of cleaning. We were told we would have a fridge and there wasn't one available. None of the ice machines worked and the main elevator in the lobby was broken for our entire 2 day stay. On the plus side the gentleman at the desk was very apologetic and went out of his way to compensate us for the inconveniences. We have stayed at 3 star hotels that were much nicer than this one, but the price was quite reasonable. If you're very budget conscious and just want to hang out in the room, then it was OK.
