“Not What We Expect from Hampton”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 18, 2013

Hampton Inn is our go to hotel. It's the one we always know we can safely stay at trusting that it will be friendly, clean, fresh, comfortable, etc. The staff was all very friendly, and the rooms and common areas were all very clean. It's just that this Hampton was not up to par compared with the many other Hamptons we've stayed at over the years. The box unit heater/AC ran off and on every few minutes for like five seconds a piece all night long making it challenging to sleep. Most Hamptons we've stayed at are updated with the wall thermostat. Soooo much better for sleep AND for temperature control. In our room here, we were either freezing it sweating. Also, the beds were not at all what we've come to expect from Hampton. The beds and pillows were extremely uncomfortable so we are going home with sore necks and backs. ;) Finally, the rooms seemed much smaller than we are used to from Hamptons. My guess is that this one just is not one that has been renovated yet. Like I said, it was clean and the staff was super friendly, but this hotel needs a lot of updating in order to wear the name Hampton Inn better. :)

This visit was a combo trip with some close friends to see my family and go to the Steelers game. The hotel was rather busy when we arrived, but the staff did an excellent job of handling everyone's concerns/needs in a very timely manner. I might have waited 3 minutes before being helped at the desk to check-in. There were a lot of Miami fans in town for the game, and I saw the staff give them the same quality treatment as the Steelers fans, as would be expected by a group of professionals. There was never a request that my group made that wasn't handled quickly, efficiently, and with a smile.

We only stayed for two nights but will definitely come back when we visit Pittsburgh again. We were staying in the Green Tree area because of a Wedding we were attending and after reading all the reviews decided to stay here while most of the other wedding guests were staying across the street at the Clarion. Let me tell you, we were not disappointed at all and the reviews don't lie. The room was big and clean, no stains on the bed or sheets. The king size bed was very comfortable and the pillows were soft and fluffy. The breakfast was good, pretty diverse selection and by the looks of it pretty popular because the lobby was packed with guests enjoying. The staff was great as-well, they changed all the sheets and left fresh towels.

Hands down the best part of the hotel is the shuttle service within a 5 mile range. It will drop you anywhere within that range and all you have to do is call the front to desk to be picked up at anytime between 7am-9pm. We used it to get the hall where the wedding was and to go downtown prior to get hair and makeup done.

I would just like to give a special shout out to Ron the retired fire fighter and the driver of the shuttle he was the nicest guy in hotel! He told us facts and history about Pittsburgh, pointed out different buildings and landmarks. Totally went out of his way to accommodate our needs. We woke up Sunday morning in pretty rough shape and while waiting for a cab back to airport in the lobby he brought us some ginger ale and coke to drink out of the blue. He asked us how the wedding was and even made a few funny jokes about how we looked so good but could barley remember anything about the night before. He was just an overall great guy and the reason why we will stay here again.

Room Tip: Ron was telling us that a lot of people first to go to the Clarion and then check in here, boy was h...

Stayed at this hotel for only one night but the staff was very friendly - from the desk clerk to the van driver. It was a great experience. Loved the room, it was a king bed that was very comfortable. Ordered dinner from a local Italian place because the menu was already in the room. Loved the convenience. Cookies weren't too bad either. :-)

The hotel was very good. The free shuttle run into downtown Pittsburgh was very handy. It saved me the trouble of driving into town, finding a place to park, and parking fees. The staff was helpful and friendly. They provided maps and directions to local restaurants, both fast food and "high end".

We were very pleased with our stay at this hotel. Everything was clean and the front desk staff was very friendly and helpful. Staff even gave us alternative route to where we were going to avoid traffic.
