Right across from PNC Park! Loved the location. Easy walk over Clemente Bridge to rest of downtown. North Shore doesn't have shopping yet, not even a drugstore, but there are places to eat. SoHo restaurant in the hotel has many flat-screen TVs and we had good salads there.
Enjoyed a spacious, clean, comfortable new room with contemporary decor and wet bar, fridge and microwave. Noticed clean-smelling lobby right when we walked in. Some traffic noise could be heard from our room, but we didn't hear noise from within the hotel or from nearby bars (we were on 9th floor, overlooking parking lot, and near the elevator). Piped-in music in hallways is annoying, but it can't be heard in the room.
Shuttle took us to Station Square for free and promptly picked us up when we called.
Prices in the 'market' next to the front desk are great -- got a bag of microwave popcorn and 16-oz. juice for $2 -- vs. paying $1.75 for just a 20-oz. pop from the vending machine. Free breakfast was good, including make-your-own waffle station.
Hotel could benefit from separate room for business travelers. Several tables at breakfast were taken up with folks conducting business on laptops. Lobby's computer for guests is also next to a fax machine/copier, so business travelers tied up that workstation. A separate room for conducting business could free up space for breakfast diners and those just wanting to get onto the computer to check e-mail if they are not traveling with a laptop. (There is Internet access in the guest rooms.)
