“OK but not outstanding”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 11, 2013

Four of us went to Penn Brewery on a Wednesday night. We arrived about 830 and a decent--if loud--small German band was playing.

The food was good, not great, and the wide array of housemade beers (10 in all) were drinkable but not particularly memorable.

A couple things; if a band is playing (and they have music regularly) it will be very difficult to carry on a conversation. If the focus of your visit is food and camaderie, then you may wish to look elsewhere. Second, don't plan on a late night. At 930, we were informed it was last call...while their website says the serve 'til midnight. It was quiet in the restaurant, and my guess is that the staff just wanted to call it a night.

“An average place for an average brew”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

The location is easy to get to and parking is no problem. The brews are not that extraordinary and the food is only average. The service is fine, as is the environment. I actually prefer the Church Brew Works.

“Great Beer but”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 21, 2013

Not as good as it once was. Ownership has changed a couple times over the years. Since the 2nd owner got the boot the place is better but still not what it was 10 years ago. Decent German Food - ah but the beer... awesome - my favorite is the Kaiser Pils

“The food was fair the service was terrible”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed March 9, 2013 via mobile

We were seated at a table that had stools Instead of chairs. They seemed like they were ready to break. The waitress got our order wrong And never asked us once how our food was. We ordered pretzels with beer cheese And the cheese tasted like cheese whiz. Our food was fair at best. We had leftovers so we asked for a box, She brought the box but took away our silverware So we had to put the food in the box with our fingers. It was the first time I had ever gone to a restaurant And gave a substandard tip. Needless to say we will never go back

“kind of disappointed”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

I have wanted to try this place for years and never could find exactly the right time. We stopped recently for lunch and realized that we had not been missing anything. The food was very average. I was excited to try the german potato salad ( I am a big fan) and it was average at best. The service was ok, but nothing special. We food that was ok and service that was average we wont be going back.
