“Perfect Place for Downtown”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 15, 2011

My dad and I were in town for the Antiques Roadshow at the David L. Lawrence Convention Center in downtown Pittsburgh. We only selected this hotel because my father wanted a Marriot hotel and it was close to the convention center. It was a great choice. It's not even a 5 minute walk to the convention center (litereally around the corner) and it's a very nice and clean hotel. We found out that it was recently remodeled and it definitely had an updated look. Our room was nice and had a really high ceiling, which made the room feel bigger. Bed was great and bathroom looked new. All the services were great from the valet to the front desk. There were several great restaurant in walking distances. While there is a restaurant inside the hotel, there's no complimentary breakfast. It was basically a Starbucks. There's a restaurant attached to the hotel next door that also provides the room services, but we didn't try it since there was no breakfast menu. This hotel might be a little pricy for some ($200 a night), but it was perfectly located for our needs and we would use it again next time we're in town.

I stayed at this hotel recently while visiting Pittsburgh area for a vacation. The valet and front desk staff were very helpful. I did feel that the $200 plus room was overpriced. It was small but had high celings. The beds were not exceptionally comfortable. It was nice to be able to walk a short distance to the rivers, the Strip district shopping, and various parks.

The good:
1. large rooms, clean, great location right in the middle of the city.
2. Very helpful and friendly valet staff
The bad:
1. we made reservations over the phone, and were promised a complementary breakfast. Upon arrival we were informed that the room comes with no breakfast. We were told that the promise was never made, implying we were not telling the truth. We were deeply offended. The lady at the reception was cold and frankly not trying to resolve the issue.
Tip to other travelers: when talking to any booking agent, stay on the line until you get a written confirmation via email.
2. The hotel hands out little cards with directions to places of interest: however these directions are not updated with regard to construction, road closures, and detours. Luckily we had some maps in the car, and managed to navigate. Again the women at the reception were not helpful.

We stayed at this hotel the night before an open house at University of Pittsburgh and took in a game at PNC Park. The hotel is in a great old building, and our room was excellent. Very clean and comfortable. We parked in Pittsburgh Parking Authority Garage at 11th and Penn (2 blocks away) for $5 weekend overnight to save on $22 valet (okay, I am cheap!). Easy walk to PNC Park. Downside was that wake up call requested never came. When I mentioned this at check out, I was not the first person to complain about this. Hotel was also a very easy drive to Pitt. Hope to return to see my Nats at PNC Park someday!

We stayed at the downtown Courtyard for one night, Fourth of July weekend. The valet/bell staff were very nice, however Jennifer at the front desk must have been having a bad day. This was the 15th Marriott property I have stayed at this year and it was the worst check in experience of all. She was extremely unfriendly and certainly did not exhibit the kind of customer service attitude that i see regularly at other Marriott properties. Kenny Chesney performed at Heinz Field which gave the people in the room next to us, the opportunity to party and yell until 3 am.

We had dinner at the Renaissance Hotel, another Marriott property, and the staff there was amazing! Personable, helpful and nothing like Jennifer at the Courtyard. I wish we had stayed at the renaissance.

Dear copygirl,

Thank you for taking the time to share your comments, and please accept my apologies for the impression Jennifer left on you, this is not typical of her and I feel badly about your encounter. I also regret the disturbance from the Kenny Chesney fans in the room next to yours. I hope despite these factors that you’ll return to see us again the next time you’re in Pittsburgh; I personally assure you will receive a warm and friendly welcome. Thanks once again for your review.

Best regards,

David Lockard, General Manager

The Courtyard downtown is conveniently located to many restaurants and activities. It provides one of the quietest rooms in the city that I have found so far. I have been staying at this hotel when in Pittsburgh for several years now. On my first visit, one of the maintenance personnel happened to be on the elevator while I was on my way down to dinner. Without prompting he asked me if I was enjoying my stay and if there was anything he could do to make it better. I mentioned the batteries in my TV remote were on their last legs. By the time I came back from dinner there was a new remote in my room. You get the feeling the staff really wants to make your stay enjoyable. On the negative side, the prices are getting a bit high. Once a good value is now getting to be a pricey option. One other issue, and it is not unique to this Courtyard, the new breakfast option is not very enjoyable (but neither was their old breakfast option).

we stayed here on 7-2-11 being in town for the kenny chesney concert at heinz field. hotel was within walking distance of the venue. found pay lot parking 2 doors down for only $20.00 a night so didn't need to use valet. hotel gave us a map with walking route highlighted to heinz field. made last minute decision to stay downtown as opposed to fighting traffic after the concert that others in our party did. surprisingly paid very little more than they did for this wonderful hotel. they had a 5 mile drive in very heavy concert traffic. room was clean, service was wonderful when we called down for sheets for the pullout sofa. they were delivered within 10 minutes. very quiet. had little shop in lobby for snacks/drinks/etc. also had a small cafe and a starbucks. across the street from a subway and a more upscale restaurant. definatley will stay here again. it is in the cultural district so perfect place to take in a play.

Many thanks for your five star review lynda052, we appreciate you choosing our hotel to see Kenny when he was here earlier this month. We’re glad to know you had a great stay and hope you enjoyed the concert just as much. You mentioned that you’ll stay again in the future; please take advantage of our valet parking as it is a similar nightly rate you found at the garage, plus we’ll be able to provide you with the convenience of having your vehicle parked and brought back for you with unlimited in and out privileges. We look forward to seeing you again!
